ASUS P5K Premium - Constant beep when turned off

Hi guys,

I recently purchased a second hand ASUS P5k Premium motherboard for use in my sister's PC. I had a spare Q6600 which i installed with a new set of Corsair XMS2 ram (from Scan ).

The pc functions fine but when it's turn it off via Windows, it emits a constant beep through the PC speakers, NOT the case speaker...

What I've tried:
Reflash the latest bios
Reset the CMOS by removing battery
Unplugging it and holding the power button in (the beep obviously stops, but comes back on next time)
Reseating the RAM and trying one module at a time.

I'd really appreciate any help, it's really annoying!

u got a spare psu to try ?

Unfortunately no, at a push, I could probably borrow one from somebody.

Out of curiousity, why could it be the PSU?

at a wild guess voltage is bleeding, its either the psu or the mobo, probably been sold a duff motherboard tbh but you wont be able to tell until you try a psu. might get away with a cheap 2nd hand sound card if its not a psu.

Ok... I'll see what I can do i guess...

I've tried another motherboard that has onboard sound and it doesn't do it...

Any other possibilities or is this the only one?

only one imo, if you tried another board then i am 90% sure you got sold a duffer.

Thanks - I'll see if i can get a PSU.

The good news is it's from eBay, the bad news is that I paid cash on collection so technically the transaction never happened. Some other good news is that he has good feedback and also I know where he lives...

Ok. It has stopped doing it. I have changed nothing.

If there was a voltage leak, could it be intermittant?
