    no auto hardware recognition

    Hi Guys,

    Bit of an odd one this. Basically I have an Asus A7N8X DLX motherboard and ever since i put it in my computer I have had to tell windows XP Pro to look in the windows/inf folder everytime it finds new hardware, it will not automatically install drivers for anything. This has been going on for about two years now and it's really annoying me now. It has happened over two motherboards as well as the first A7N8Xdlx i had (rev 1.04) went pop and was replaced under warranty for a rev 2.0. This also has the same problem. Over the last two years I have changed just about everything apart from the scanner. Thing is, on a fresh install it still does it, even before i plug the scanner in. I asked about this on the nfocershq forums and noone has got a clue and has never seen it happen before. I can't believe it has happened over 2 mobos as well. As this was the only thing i changed when I first put it in it has to be the mobo but I don't know why.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

    Chris

    Sounds like one of your path variables are messed up. I'll see if I can work out which one...
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Right, I'm not sure if this will work, but check it out:

    Fire up regedit, and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

    In there you'll find a string called "Device Path." It should have stored in it "%SystemRoot%\inf"

    If it doesn't, let me know.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    ok, in that key i have %SystemRoot%\inf;c:\pnp\scanner.

    The second bit refers to my scanner software (in case you couldn't guess, lol).

    Do you think this has anything to do with it?

    Well ";" is the standard separater used for environment variables in windows, so I'd think not.

    I'm afraid I'm baffled...
