    Rebooting Problem

Hi, and sorry if this is in the wrong section. I was wondering if anyone could help me out with the following problem.

My friend was using his computer (playing a game) When his pc stopped responding. Without thinking he turned it off at the socket. When he tried booting it up it gives him the safe mode option screen of where to boot up to. I have tried every option and they all result in the same outcome. They get to the Windows load up screen and just before it goes to the desktop it reboots itself.

Could anyone offer me some help with this please?

Thanks for taking the time to read this

    Luke

Try taking everything out that isn't critical (optical drives, PCI cards, etc.).

You could also try running Memtest to check that the memory is fine.

Have you got any parts e.g. graphics card that you can try testing in your friend's computer?

You might also want to try the software from this thread: http://forums.hexus.net/showthread.php?t=33000.

If all else fails, then you could also try reformatting.

    Hello

I have taken this computer down to the minimal system and everything seemed to be working ok. Then adding components in 1 by 1 it all got back to the same problem as before. I decided to take the hard disk out of the pc and put it in to mine, the problem still happened so Im guessing that the error is in the hard drive.

Does anyone have any idea what I could do? Is reformatting the answer?

    Thanks for any help offered.

If you have different hardware to him the hard drive will not be able to boot windows anyway.

    This problem is now sorted

It turned out that the registery had been corrupted and I was forced to reformat the system. Just want to say thanks to all those that helped
