    ICY BOX - help needed!

right I have never used an external hard drive or hard drive enclosure, but I have just got an Icy Box USB2 3.5" Hard drive enclosure and can't get it to work.

The hard drive I have put in is a new Seagate ST3200822A Barracuda 7200.7 200GB IDE hard drive.

But what should I set the hard drive to (i.e. master or slave?)
Problem is i have tried both master and slave and it detects the hard drive in device manager, but XP won't assign it a drive letter - so it does not show in my computer.
Also nothing seems to happen in the system tray when i plug it into the USB2 port.

Is there any thing I am doing wrong?
do i need any more drivers/updates?
I am using Win XP Pro with service pack 1
Can't remeber what model my motherbaord is (its some MSI socket 754), but all other USB 2 stuff works fine i.e. card reader, printer.

    any suggestions welcome

    thanks
