    Hard Disk Temps - Worried.

Hmmm, somethings not right, but whats the appropriate temperature for a Hard disk, specifically Seagate 160GB drives, I have two of them in my new Shuttle SB68i BTX case and its been concerning me since I put it together on Sunday that there is no air flow up where the hard disks are at all, and then I downloaded SpeedFan.

Hard drive one currently has a little picture of a flame next to it no exactly reassuring, but whats worse its currently reading 52 degrees celsius and the one with the green tick next to it is reading 47 degrees. Now the other one is my slave, and im not running anything more than MP3's off that drive at the mo.

This is worrying me, on the basis this system has been built up for only two days and there is no airflow at all up where the drives are......there is only one fan in the entire system anyway!

Any one got any thoughts on it....

Any level of airflow up there will probably bring temps down a lot. I hate hot drives, they have a thing for dieing.

That's not to say the temp readings are accurate, but they are aquired from the drive's SMART subsystem.

    Still, get some airflow sorted!

I'll have a look at it and have a little think

edit: Oh dear... no chance in that case! Looks like your drives will have to run a little warmer than you'd desire. :\That's the trouble with fitting performance hardware into SFF. Seagate's are good drives so they should be OK - my 4 disk RAID 5 array holds up well enough.

yeah you just saw pics of it and though hmm lol.

There isnt much space in there...hmm might have to make the majority of them external drives and only have one in there....

Gonna have to put my thinking cap on.....
