Windows Media Player Problem

Hello people i am new on here so hello! after i have had a number of problems with PC recently, and i am just got some of it back to normal again hopefully, one annoying problem is with windows media player, when its minimized its in the toolbar, and most of the buttons like play, stop etc are all greyed out, and whenever i try to control the volume there is no sound change, and when i close media player when music is still playing the music will still be in the background even though media player is closed! how can i fix this?
