pc occasionally changes boot order of hdds

I use my pc for ages(days, weeks etc) with no problem. Turn it off one night then on the next morning. It then keeps coming up with the prob of NTLDR missing. When this happened before(through searches, I found a message I posted a month ago re NTLDR) and it turned out the boot priority had been changed. This happened again a couple of days ago and have now just remembered what caused it. Sure enough, I went into bios and it was the same thing again. I boot of my SATA drive and use my other 2 IDE drives as storage.

Any idea why my pc randomly causes my boot priority to be changed?
I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

Sounds like it might be losing it in the bios setup which might point to your CMOS battery being on the blink....probably worth replacing and see if it helps.

Is the boot drive the 300gb diamondmax plus 10 16mb sata? If it is, then its the drive causing the problem.

That's quite interesting, and what's more frightening is I was planning to get one of those when I have some money, it's low down on my list but still.

    e.g. My list:

Surge Protector for power + modem to router
    Laser Printer
    More RAM
    DECT Phone

Ive got two maxtors, they rarly have the problem though. Im quite unimpressed with maxtors warranty aswell - drives suppost to be 3yr warrenty but I was sold OEM versions without knowing they were, so I only get 1 year

Any future hdd's I buy will most likley be samsung spinpoints...

I've always been a fan of the Diamond Max 8 ATA drives Silent, thin, quick, cheap

It is the sata I'm using as a boot drive, bummer. As it's only a random prob, when it happens again I'll just go back into bios and change the boot order. Also gonna change the battery just in case it's that but after reading the link that was posted, it most likely is the drive.

Very much doubt it would be the battery..

Turn pc on and check if they are detected on the first page, then go into bios and see if they are in there aswell. Restart 10 or so times and keep checking. If the maxtor frequently doesnt get detected, but the rest always do, then you know this is the problem.

This problem happens very rarely for me, it did however happen today
