could changing cases prevent pc recognising hard drives?

I know it sounds strange but this is why I ask:

Recently had sys below and decided to upgrade my case and PSU.

I bought a silverstone TJ05 case and a OCZ modstream PSU. Swapped the system over to the new case and plugged in the basic cables from the case(led/switch cables etc and front and rear 120mm fans).

Then plugged in the ide cables and power cables etc and booted up(after resetting CMOS).

The sys froze for a while on the initial POST page(which it never used to do) then started booting into windows. It recognised my sata(primary) drive but did not recognise either of my IDE drives or my CD drives.

I checked all power cables and ide cables we plugged in correctly. Still nothing.

Then wondered if it could be the PSU. Swapped back to my thermaltake PSU(which I knew to be working), reset CMOS and booted up. Same thing happened, sys would not recognise my IDE or CD drives and hung for a while on the POST page.

Now bearing in mind that the sys worked fine before changing the case/PSU and the only things that have changed are the case and PSU, what could be causing the problem?

I've changed everything I can, tried diff cables etc and nothing works.
Could the case have an effect on this(as with my old PSU in the new case, it is the only different thing remaining).

This is driving me nuts, HELP!
I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

Case should make no difference. Strip PC down to bare components. Only plus in IDE and see what happens.

    Nemz.

You could have zapped the HDD with static electricity when moving it from one case to the other. Just a possibility

Don't think it could have affected both ide hard drives AND cd and dvd writer though, could it?

By resetting CMOS perhaps it changed an IDE option that was set? Perhaps one of the drives don't work when set to Auto Detect, or requires a certain DMA setting etc.

Test each of the IDE devices separately.

Are you using cable select or master/slave? Maybe the cable orientation was changed when changing case.

that sounds like good advice. and if you believe the case is giving you the problem (which it really can't do) then take the mobo out and put it on your desk.
