I want to display movies played from my pc on my TV.

Bare with me here I may not make much sense to begin with, thankyou.

I want to display movies played from my pc on my TV.

I have connected my CRT widescreen TV to my X800pro using the S-video and the phono audio to my sound card input. I now have a picture, which is to large for my wide screen TV as I think the max resolution it supports is 1024-768 or 1280-1024 I can’t remember right now though, is this the tv or the gfx card that determines the resolution support for the secondary display?

The picture it displays is my desktop background with no icons present. If I play a dvd how can I tell it which display to go to; ie secondary display rather than my main tft?

I have tried cloning the desktop onto the tv but due to the resolution conflict I can’t successfully fit it on to the tv yet without cutting a lot of the screen away, also the dvd window is blank on the tv display as if it can only be displayed on one at a time.

set it as a second display then set that display to the res of your tv. i do this sometimes with a 640x480 tv and it works fine. you need to drag the dvd app over onto the second screen (tv) then maximise it. that should do it fine

also what gfx are you using as sometimes it can be a litle different for ati/nvidia.

sorry fellas, Ive completely lost the thread here.

Drag to where? I drag the app to which window on my main desktop? I cant go further than the edges I still can't change the res high enough to fit on the wide screen. It says the max supported res is 1024/768 in the attributes for the tv, but at this setting the desktop picture displayed is still to large.

You should be able to drag the app off the right hand side of your main desktop (past the edge!) and it should then appear on your TV.

On my TV I have to set the resolution to 800x600 else the desktop size is bigger than the TV!

What DVD player do you use? PowerDVD has an option to automatically display the DVD 'full screen on secondary device' (i.e. your TV).

Thanks guys, I've got the movie playing on my secondary device now , however I have a small problemo. If I start the movie in power DVD on the primary screen then drag it over to the TV, it displays the movie on both screens simultaneously which for some reason results in the movie freezing after a few minutes play. If I drag power DVD to the TV then start the movie I get no sound or vision from it, even though the timer shows it's playing. The way I got around this was to make the TV my main display temporarily while I played the movie, but I shouldn’t have to do this every time.

Another little thing someone may be able to help with is how to configure power DVD to use my sound card for 7.1 audio, as when I bring up the info tab it says the Audigy 2ZS is not in use. In the audio settings I've tried using SPDIF aswell as the 8 speaker set up in power DVD’s settings but its still playing in 2.1 not 7.1. I'm using Power DVD 6 deluxe. Thanks in advance peeps, I appreciate your help

Try media player Classic with VMR 9 enabled.
You can use it to play DVD and all video files that I can think of.

I used to also have problem with black video screen for display that was not primary.
VMR 9 solved it for me.

Run the TV as a clone of the primary (as you can't really make any good use of it as a separate input screen).

Then set the video to run as full screen on the TV in the Catalyst Control Center (sic), and when you start the video it will run windowed on the primary display and fullscreen on the secondary, at whatever resolution the secondary is set to.

    I use Winamp.

I totally agree with this comment - very versatile bits of kit.

Does mean an additional network connection though.
