Exclamation Need help with a friends computer which freezes becasue it was shut down improperly!?

Hi, my Mum's friends computer was shut down by the wall instead of the normal and way ( on win xp) and when they get the option that "windows was not shut down properly" they chose to restart like they have in the past when this has happened but instead it just freezes and it happens everytime. What do you reckon guys, won't let them in safe mode either, any things worth trying? Thanks very much for any help, would be appreciated, John.

You never mentioned whether you are getting bsod's or any error messages so go into the recovery console and see if you can do a repair....sounds like there may be a problem with the hdd and it may have lost some boot files?

i suggest you should try to repare your os...

better use the second repair option in the windows xp installation menu, it keeps your "My Documents" - Folder

    John,

If you can get into Safe mode (perhaps just command prompt) then perform a chkdsk /f, as this should fix any files which were still open when switching off.

It may advise that a reboot is required for the C drive.

    Do a repair installation

If you don't know how to do this:
    1. Boot from the XP CD
    2. On the "Welcome to Setup" screen press Enter (not R)
    3. On the next screen press F8 to agree with the EULA
    4. The next screen should display a list of all the Win XP installations that it finds
Select the one you want and press R to repair
