I had the same prob. Had to re-install windows to get rid.

Does using the "start windows with last settings that worked" work?

have you tried selecting safe mode instead, once booted restarting as normal, also it might be an idea to list the spec's of the machine in question.

Look dont post unless you have something constructive to say becuase comments like that piss me off, it doesnt help me and doesnt solve the problem, yes i did use short hand msn to type that message but it was only becuase i was in college at the the time and would rather not have the college admins bitching at me so get over it. As for the problem, i do not know the specs as this is not my computer and for the safe mode etc he claims to have already done it so i have advised to re install or take it back to where he has bought it from.

I hope you can ALL understand this message as i know some of you are fussy and stuck up about it.

    Thanks for the help

Assuming 2k or XP, you might try a sfc /scannow from start > run. The SFC tool itself will scan your computer for system files that may have been replaced when some old or poorly made program was installed. SFC works in conjunction with a utility called Windows File Protection that keeps the system file cache: (%Systemroot%\System32\Dllcache) uppdated with the newest Microsoft Approved files as they are installed on your system. You will need your original Windows CD and it'd be best to re-install the latest SP following it.

It would only have taken a few extra moments to make the post so much more understandable. If the 'college admins' were really going to get on your back about it, then you shouldn't have posted it from college, but that's not my problem. My problem is people getting arsey... so please don't guys.

    ROFL !

    i love the line below
"Take It Back To Where He Got It From" -sounds like your gonna damage ur mates wallet 2 me -get ready for a high £30+ standard charge

    Right

    1st try
    --------
-Stick XP in a cd/dvd drive, reboot the pc,and when asked "press any key to boot from cd" hit any key

-Once XP has finished loading all the neccesary drivers have loaded- it'll say "Welcome To Setup", and hit the Enter key-once it finds the alreayd installed XP-[i cant remember what key it is to press but u hit a key] you can do a fresh reinstall of XP over the top of one without formatting

If that doesnt fix it -try the 2nd suggestion below

    2nd Try
    ---------
-Again Stick XP in the drive, reboot and boot from cd-all the drivers loaded "Welcome To Setup" screen
-This time -once it's found the XP already installed- just ignore it- and continue to do a fresh/reformat of the Partition, and a new fresh reinstall of XP
Then just simply follow instructions from the screen

P.S. "Look dont post unless you have something constructive to say becuase comments like that piss me off" -so what if it cheeses u off we dont care- ever heard of a thing called Sarcasm or a Joke? something called "Freedom of Speech"

Ok hes took the thing back to the place where he bought it as nothing is working, wont let me look at it either but never the less its his decision.

and Vincent this is the help section of the forum and im sure if people where posting rubish instead of helpful comments then you would be annoyed too.

Thanks to the people that have helped.
