    Urgent help needed

Well I got a harddrive off ebay, turned computer off.. screwed it in, plugged it in (power and IDE cable).

And my computer couldn't detect any harddrives or the cd drive... so I thought, hmm, I must just need to reset the CMOS, so I reset the CMOS... still failing to find them.

I've tried taking out PCI cards... disconnecting neons/fans etc, but it doesn't help at all. Weird thing is... the CD drive doesn't eject either, no power is getting to it, but power is getting to the neons, and graphics card (9800 pro says that you need to connect the power if it isn't connected, and i dont get that message).

I can't smell any burning or anything so I don't think anything has burn't out. I think I can hear the original harddrive on but it's so damn quiet I'm not sure, and I'm not sure if the new one is on or off either.

It also lags getting into the BIOS, when I tell it to it takes about a minute, and it can't detect anything in there either.

Need help ASAP please, any suggestions welcome.

    Thanks

I havn't properly looked at them but will do now, I tried taking the jumper out of the slave drive, but will have to look into them both now.

On a side note, I have an old 1gb.. loud harddrive, I plugged it in, and I couldn't hear it power up at all, maybe it's a PSU problem? It is a cheap **** PSU afterall... I need a new one.

    SOrted..

the jumpers were set correctly (as I thought), but when I plugged it back in they powered up, I connected the IDE cables the wrong way round I think... (you know there is 3 connections.. one for the mobo, and the other two for devices... and your supposed to use the very end one for the master, if it's just a master.. i think your supposed to use the end one for slave if you have two harddrives connected).

Anywho, XP has gone AWOL now, so need to get into safe mode and back things up then format... going to install linux on the new harddrive too.

Ah, that's better It actually feels like I'm browsing faster too.

Got the software I got with my wireless USB thing working too, so hopefully I won't get disconnected upon high CPU usage. Shall try it out later. Now time to install some security .
