Did you reboot the modem in case it was locked onto the MAC of your old PC?

if the ADSL light is not lit at all (I'm assuming this is the ADSL Synch light) then you're not connected properly to your exchange. Does the modem have power? Have you checked all cables are seated securely?

You loaded the ethernet drivers for your mobo (assuming onboard ethernet)?
No, did you reboot your modem (i.e. switch off & then back on) otherwise chances are that it is still looking for your old PC's MAC address?

knowing tiscali yes it will be. Project187 - if you have no synch with your exchange no amount of replacement modems will make the slightest bit of difference. I'd suggest (if at all possible) disconnecting all phones in your house, then plugging your modem directly into your filter at the master phone socket (you'll need your PC for this - hopefully you'll have a laptop...) and see if you get synch then.

Possibly worth trying before you do that is to try fully uninstalling, reboot then reinstall. It's unlikely to fix it, but there's a small chance.

EDIT - just read the bit about the new line - have Tiscali check at the exchange that the new line is ADSL enabled...

You have any joy as yet project187? I'm well aware of the joys of Tiscali tech support - I have a friend who asked my advice on ISPs and then signed up with them anyways. It was hell getting things working - the modem was faulty.

Anyways I went round with a laptop dual booting Windows/Linux and tried it out, deduced that the modem was broken, phoned them up and told them; they insisted that the Windows was at fault and that the computer needed to be rebuilt. I told them I was using Linux at the time and you could *hear* the blank eyed look on their faces. Only way they would accept that their 50p USB modem was at fault was when I told them I'd taken modem router round and all worked fine... I hadn't, but it got the modem replaced and the problem fixed.

Splash i had the same problem... they always says its the fault of windows where as its there dog modem, there obviously just reading off a cheat sheet. Does anyone know if they offer an ethernet modem rather than USB??

As bad as i found tiscali however, NTL take the biscuit for complete shat customer service. I cancelled my NTL in June but there still taking the money becuase some brainless tart didnt cancel it correctly. I found it takes an hour and a half to get thru to the correct department, buti got my money back, so its £175 to put towards a new graphics card. Any ideas on what to get...?

project let us know how it goes in regards to cancelling it - i know im tied into a 12 month contact up until end of october, but i really dont like their customer service and wouldnt mind binning it.
