WMP music in 5.1 rather than 2.1...

Right, a mate of mine is wanting his rear speakers to work when he's listening to tunes. At the moment it's just coming out the front speakers and sub (which is right I know!) but like I say - he wants audio out the rears as well.

Anyone know how to do this? He's running an SB Live 24, and a Logitech 5.1 setup.

    Cheers!

First, is the Has he changed the speaker settings in the "Sounds, Speech and Audio Devices" in the control panel? Its on the advanced tab, you have to choose the speaker setup. Guess he has since thats pretty basic but just checking.

btw does he want the front signal just duplicated onto the rear speakers, or does he want it as 5.1 surround?

I've made sure he's running in 5.1 mode and yeah it's defo set up right. He just wants it mirrored in the rears yeah.

The machine is running a fresh install, so yes - latest drivers.

Control panel -> Audio control panel -> speaker settings -> under the CMMS 3D Selection, select "stereo surround".
    Try that.

Im wondering if such an old card as the ability to upmix on the fly, not entirely sure.

Agent i have a SB live 5.1 and mine can manage upmix, so i assume that one can. But upmix wont just duplicate on the rears as far as i know. I have creative 5.1 speakers and i was trying for ages to make them play in the rear speakers with no idea why it wasnt working - then one day i was thinking they were broke and was considering sending them back... i turned it on after changing nothing and it worked :| Check creatives site, they have a knoweldge base and a forum which may be of use...

Ahh yes, i missed the Live! bit of Lowes post, that card should certainly upmix the signal. I have the same card as you htid, if you go into the control panel like i posted above, it'll give you different options to upmix the sound with the rear speakers.
