    Device Not Ready

    Hi,

everytime i shut down my PC i get the Windows Error message and the lovely sound which informs me that my A drive is not ready and i should close the door to continue. Problem is i dont actually have an A drive - floppy shows up on on My Computer but theres no actual drive and nothing plugged into the floppy on the mobo.

Any ideas on how i can get rid of this message?

    Cheers

You may also be able to uninstall it in the Device Manager.

I used to have the same issue on 2 pcs, and it was damned annoying - I did the same as you, disabled the floppy in the Bios, and it's fine now.

yeh seems to have solved the problem - the only problem i get now is that everytime i boot i get

"Windows has found new hardware" and tries to install my non existant floppy drive despite it being off in the BIOS and disabled on Device Manager, but i can live with that at the moment - beats the hell out of that Error message and that ghastly error noise

Odd - didn't get that. It's definately disabled in the device manager, not uninstalled?

Can you try and run the installation, hopefully it will fail, then you can check 'Never prompt me to install this again'.

That's because it's trying to install the flopy controller, not a floppy drive. Are you sure you've disabled the floppy interface in teh BIOS? As well as setting floppy drives to "none" you need to set the floppy interface to "disabled" - it's usually under a heading of "onboard devices" in the bios.
