Faulty graphics card???

Hi,

I've got a PC with a PCIe slot and have bought an X1800XT (dual DVI) to go in it.

I've installed the card correctly and have replaced the PSU with a 500W one to make sure I've got enough juice...

The problem is I'm not getting anything out onto the monitor, all cables are correct etc...

Any suggestions???

I think it is faulty but the retailer demands £25 restocking fee if it is not faulty so I hope one of you guys might have a suggestion or two to try before I resign myself to returning it...

Any chance of trying the card in another machine as that will prove one way or the other.

Have you tried plugging your monitor into the other DVI port on the card? As there are two, some cards can be pickey about which one you use. If the card isn't being recognised then your motherboard should emit a beeping noise, to tell you so.

Make sure the card is seated firmly in place.

Tried it in another PC like a friends? Best way to check for faults I've found.

I've yet to find someone that has a PCIe slot in their machine (they all run AGP still...Lame) This of course means that I can't test the thing.

No beeps at start up so hopefully means that it is recognised by mobo and I've tried connecting screen to both DVI's without a peep. (Monitor has the no connection floating screen bit so it is definitely on)

It is a standard build Fujitsu Siemens (PC Cheap from work so no arguments from me)
But this means Mobo manufacture/model is a bit of a mystery... However it has onboard graphics

Should the system auto switch off internal gfx after new card is inserted into slot??

I guess I should check the bios to make sure...

(I'm away from home this weekend so I'll check Monday)

You will have to disable your onboard graphics first then install the pcie card then install the drivers for it.
