Ok I am at the end of my tether...
I bought an X-Fi to treat myself, and the sound is fantastic, however a few problems have occurred.
Some random reboots midway through doing normal tasks, web surfing, copying files watching dvds etc. And looking at the error report in admin tools, it says it is a 'bugcheck' error.
2nd problem, is that everytime i want to play my beloved CS : S i can't as within 1 minute of joining a game counter strike just shuts down without any warning and goes back to the desktop. Strange thing is that when i go to do a 'sound check' on cs : s it loads up and large ERROR signs are where the speakers should be ?!?!
All this has happened since installing my new X-Fi Xtrememusic soundcard. I went from a Audigy 1 LS which gave me no problems.
I have looked for ages trawling the net for answers to the problems and come up with nothing. I have upgraded the Bios, and the NForce4 drivers for the board (A8N SLI DELUXE) to no avail. I don't know what I can do
Really please help me!
One annoying thing is that i cannot use anything else other than the stock X-Fi drivers that came on the CD, as all the rest are only XP compatible, and it won't let me install them, are there any other drivers that I could use?
Finally if i were to upgarde to XP, could i do this by putting in the XP disk and clicking upgrade? If i did that would all my documents, programs etc be as they were in 2000, or would i have to reinstall everything?
I am currently using Windows 2000, with the spec as below.
Thanks for any help. Pictures can be added on request with further details about the windows rebooting errors.
Cheers
Ian
PS. It shouldnt be a PSU problem as i carefully monitor the voltages on ASUS probe and they are extremely stable within +/- 5% of the rails. I.e. typically 12V rail fluctuates between 11.902 and 12.032
5v rail 4.972 and 4.999
3.3v rail 3.296 and 3.312
