Exclamation NTLDR is corrupt. The system cannot boot.

Well i am trying to install windows xp x64 onto my computer. and once it has gotten past the first hurdle and restart i get this error message every time. I have tried reinstalling multiple times and have also copied a new copy of NTLDR from my windows dvd to C: using the windows recovery console but it still says it is corrupt. Can anyone tell me how i can fix this problem please.

I followed that perfectly and for option 1 i get an NTOSKRNL.EXE is missing or corrupt error so if anyone can point me somewhere to help me fix that it would be great.
    expand D:\AMD64\NTOSKRNL.EX_ C:\windows\system32 didn't work...

for options 2-8 i get Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem. Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware. Please check the Windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information.

for option 9 i get I/O Error accessing boot sector file multi(0)disk(0)fdisk(0)\BOOTSECT.DOS

and for option 10 i get rebooted.

I'd probably be kicking it around the room by now. Perhaps it's time to start testing components and connections (memtest, hard disk diags, reseat cpu/ram etc) then choosing the option to delete the partition and recreate during install. Make sure you dont have any mass storage devices (or much of anything else really) plugged in when installing. Clean the CD.

Another thing is to check on google if anyone else is having problems with any of the same hardware during an x64 install.

    Good luck.

I ran memtest for 12:45 a few nights back and it passed 41 times with no errors. I am suspecting my hard drive, could anyone point me in the direction of something i could use to test it? I have reformated and reinstalled windows countless times, i get this message from when windows setup reboots. And i swear to god if i clean the cd and it works ill cry

Using the WINNT.ini which comes as a choice of three boot.ini's from that website fix i got the following results:

option 1 : Windows could not start because file "<Windows Root>\system32\hal.dll was missing or corrupt.

options 2-8 : Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem. Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware. Please check the Windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information.

option 9 : I/O Error accessing boot sector file multi(0)disk(0)fdisk(0)\BOOTSECT.DOS

    option 10 : Computer reboots.

I am about to try the xp.ini but im not very confident...

Either the floppy or CD with the Western Digital diag should be fine.

I'd check whether x64 needs you to manually install SATA drivers during Windows install

I presume you've got the latest motherboard BIOS. It's worth resetting ESCD data in the BIOS as well.
