Can't see anything obviously wrong with the Hijack log

Find your firefox.exe should be in "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" and rename to firefox1.exe and change your launch shortcut to "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox1.exe"

This way you will know which is the genuine firefox.exe.

Search your PC to see if there is a false firefox.exe and delete it.

    Good Luck

It's using the genuine file, it's just opening an instance of whatever my default browser is in the background. I tried to move firefox.exe to my desktop, the process didn't run, I changed my default browser to IE and got multiple instances of iexplore.exe. When I have no default browser obviously there are no dodgy processes, but that's far from ideal. Whatever it is is also slowing my machine down quite significantly, it thinks pretty hard about alt + tabbing etc., the process I guess is using a fair amount of RAM. So, if my default browser is open and doing something without me seeing it, how can this be?

sometimes 'items' dont even come up no matter program u use and you jsut have to sift through your c:/windows/system32 folder in safe mode with the settings in control panel>folder options to show all hidden files and all system/protected files for all items without "Microsoft Corporation" as the publisher or whatever AND a suspicious name. For some reason they never bother to just put microsoft as publisher on spyware but if you are paranoid you could just look for suspicious names all together.

k, done that, checked looooads on Google, can't see anything dodgy. One dude on a Mozilla forum had the same problem - http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewto...5e17dbf3bb5d71 - he apparently sorted it but he didn't say what program he used or even what it came up as. SpyBot found somat called Alexa something and apparently removed it, but it hasn't done anything. Currently running my browser as firefox1.exe, process isn't running because it can't find it but it's still doing weird stuff and being slow. It's driving me insane, I REFUSE to re-format, it's my solution to everything, not this time, no way! I wish the dude on the other forum would reply. Has anyone got any more ideas?
