Recently my internet has been running at a snail's pace. I am using a Netgear 108mbps wireless connection to the router which is plugged into 2meg broadband with BT. The upgrade from 512 to 2meg was done about March/April and I was getting about 1.8mbps in my room upstairs, but around May/June it suddenly dropped to around 300kbps. I hadn't changed anything that I'm aware of. Can anyone think of a possible solution to this problem? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Are you getting interference on the channel your wireless is using? I was getting dropouts on mine when I fitted a wireless video sender downstairs to watch tele in the bedroom. Once I changed the channel, it ran fine.

I don't think so. I've had the occasional dropout, but the Netgear software reports the connection with medium signal strength and running at 108mbps.
Have you checked that nobody else is connecting and using your bandwidth? also worth checking for spyware/trojans/adware that may be using the bandwidth in the background.
It has been very hot lately... is your NetGear laying flat or on its side with platy airflow round it. When they get hot they get flakey.....
Try to make each and every day the best it can be.
The router is standing vertically so it should have plenty of airflow around it. I don't think there is anyway that someone else can be using my bandwidth as my dad has it set up to only allow the MAC address of my brother's laptop, his laptop and mine.
I have exactly the same problem, ever since I upgraded with BT to 2 meg I get terribly low service (used to get a nice 1.4mb/s) now it slows to 200K sometimes.
What times of day is it slow?
or all the time?
Im on aol and get slow internet in the evenings.... like 512kbps speeds rather than 8mb
Possibly one of your neighbours could be using something like this, so it is worth trying a different channel for your 802.11g.Originally Posted by jamin
