Windows XP Network Password

Hey

I've got XP Pro installed on my laptop and desktop. I'm trying to share files between them, but windows keeps asking for a username/password when i try to connect. I've never set a password on either of them. What will the username and password be? I've tried administrator/admin etc etc

Assuming you're in a workgroup rather than a domain the username will be hostname\username and the password will be whatever you log in with. Are you using simple file sharing?

just used ftp in the end. much easier

If the machines are not in a domain then even if two accounts have the same name on each computer they will appear differently. So pc "kevin" would be a different account to laptop "kevin". You would need to pass a machine/user id to the other PC when connecting. ie join as pc\kevin from the laptop to the PC.

I've just read what I have typed and it barely makes sense but hopefully you'll get my drift?
