Clunk: im planning on re-seating it when i get a chance - i have a lot of work, and i had trouble with the heatsink when i first put it on, so i want to allow a bit of time for when i do it...

Yeh, i was thinking of getting an after-market cooler, but i still remember reading (before i bought the parts) that the intel stock cooler was quite good.....

Devilmaycry... ive manged to get my E6600 under control as i was having exactly the same problem as you!

I replaced my Thermalright XP90c with an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro and its worked a treat! Booting into windows, Intels TAT reports 20 21 idle and after about 2 hours of BF2142 looking though the massive list of intel TATs readings the cores had never reached above 31 31... My CPU is now running much cooler than the motherboard... I hope you get yours sorted!

Heres a link to SCAN where i bought my freezer 7 from...
