    Unhappy E6600 temps!!

I just downloaded nTune, and was checking out my temps, and my CPU idle temps are at 53C!!!! thats HIGH seeing as i've read of people overclocking and running stress tests with it running at 50C! How can i fix this. Planning on re-seating the CPU but what about applying more thermal grease etc..? i used Arctic Silver 5 when i first put the rig together (about a week ago). I need something fast, because i have to RMA my graphics card, and that'll bring my PC down for ages, while the replacement gets here.... either that or i could fix it when the replacement arrives...

Yep thats high best to check them in the BIOS before you panic tho. My temps in the BIOS are low 40s which is OK.

Read somwhere to use TAT, and i see idle temps of:
    CPU 0 = 46C
    CPU 1 = 43C

Like you said, i checked in the BIOS and it gave me readings of 42-43C, hitting 44C randomly

Panic over?? those temps are fine then?

lol, for the hell of it, i set a workload of 100% for both cores, 67C for CPU 0, 65C for CPU 1...

Yeah, if everything's a stock, that's quite high. Not enough to be critical or anything, but it does suggest the heatsink's not on clean or something.

I wouldn't worry about the motherboard's reading of the temps mind - stick with TAT, as mobo's readings are never completely accurate.

So should i re-seat it? if so , how? ( i mean about cleaning it etc.)

I was hoping to do some overclocking later on, so any help would be appriciated...

make sure when you reseat the cpu heatsink that you do not apply too much thermal grease --just a little .

I know this may sound obvious but I would get a better cooler, you can pick up something like an arctic freezer pro for less than £12 and it will drop your temps by quite a few deg and should be quieter as well. stock coolers are like the cables you get with hi-fi's and surround sound systems, they are the cheapest things that work, performance is always terrible on them.

I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

I had problems getting the clips on the heatsink to go on, so i might have scuffed up all the arctic silver then.....hmmm well, my PC is officially out of action from today as my 8800GTX hits the post to get replaced....

lol im stuck to my AMD Athlon XP 1600+ with GeForce 2 graphics!!

    lol, tough luck
anyway if you are getting a new cooler, you could try and get some Coollaboratory Liquid Pro, its a liquid thermal paste which seems to have the effect of having a new and better cool heatsink, and yet you dont.

    check out its review
    http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews.p...ste_comparison

and if you get it with a new heatsink then well, the performance would be greater. the only people who stock it and give a cheap delivery are
    http://www.thecoolingemporium.co.uk/...products_id=37

as for those temps, I always have a limit of 60C for the cpu, 67 and 65 is quite high at load.

    CPU 0 : 42C
    CPU 1 : 43C

Stock one of my friends isnt cooling it well either.
