Do have anything to compare the two between from a purely cpu standpoint ?

    <EDIT>
Got a full retail copy of Windows 7 here sat waiting for a SSD to try it on (bit reluctent to flatten this currently working machine) plus i had other plans for my hardware upgrades before i went to Win7

You can install without a SN and use it for 30 days IIRC. I assume you have the disc?? If not you can legally download the ISO only,or the Enterprise version I mentioned and use it for evaluation purposes.

There are few benchmarks you can run.

    The first is HandBrake 0.9.5:

    http://forums.hexus.net/pc-hardware/...ded-power.html

    Download:

    http://sourceforge.net/projects/handbrake/files/0.9.5/

I should really get the HandBrake 0.9.6 thread back up and running - things have got in the way!

There is also the x264 benchmark:

    http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=520

You could try CineBench too. There is FryRender but that is OTT for a CPU in this class.

    Don't run SuperPi though!!

Cat - i have a full retail boxed copy sat here doing nothing - been waiting on SSD prices dropping to a point that made a 256gb worth it and was waiting to get a nas unit so that i could move the bulk of my data out of the machine and onto that - then get a hybrid hdd for the bulk data storage and a nice and quick SSD for boot and apps (games onto the hybrid)

Supose i could look to a get a WHS box up and running - i really want to get a new TFT too damit why do this have to cost

ps been holding out because there is nothing wrong with my current install and i am very reluctent to fix something that is not broken.

Well you have a spare PSU right?? Can't you re-build into your sister's old computer?? I assume she is not using it anymore??

If you want to re-purpose the SSD,just install Windows 7 on the new system and don't activate it - you have at least 30 days. Alternatively use the 90 day trial. Run any benchmarks you want and more importantly give your feedback on the day to day to usage. Then if you want to use the SSD elsewhere then wipe and reinstall the OS.

Then re-purpose the core parts to the builds you want.

Congrats to the winners. What an awesome bunch of prizes and the fact there was three of them makes it even better.

Re: Features - Win an awesome self-build AMD APU bundle

    Yeah, I was a bit subtle wasn't I

wprime is another good multithreaded benchmark that's quick to run. I'll not be putting any CPU benchmarks in my write up (a bit pointless considering), but if anyone wants to know just how little you can get done on a Sempron 140 I'll happily drop some in here

DR, quick question - is there a specific sub-forum you want us to put our reviews in?

I believe the winners for this competition were chosen by AMD representatives (in consultation with DR) based on forum contribution and the likely quality of review the components would receive from the winners - so not at random, no

Big box with "Hexus bundle" on it arrived this morning! First thoughts coming this evening, full review will probably have to wait until the weekend or early next week to give me time to install everything and run the set of tests I want to
