    Ha ha! I remember these discussions too! Most of my mates had BBC micros and Elite had about 3 ships on their version. I had the C64!

    Ah, heady days...

    I loved my Amigas, whenever a Mac user starts foaming at the mouth at me about how PCs are cack I usually pat them on the head and nod in an understanding way.

    Absolutely - mac users have no idea what _really_ being marginalised was like.. Also the Amiga could run MacOS faster than the Mac back in the day - most amusing

    Having owned an Atari ST and an Amiga, I would say the Amiga was better...well, I traded my Atari ST for an Amiga, so that says it all really!

    I remember seeing Elite for the first time on a friends BBC micro - I was gob-smacked. Couldn't believe the sense of immersion, and feeling of a whole universe to "explore"....those were the days. Just a jaded old cynic now.

    @dangel

    LOL! I never saw that (MacOS) but it doesn't surprise me at all!

    @mutley

    I remember being so into Elite that when a ship flew over the top of me in combat I would physically duck!

    IIRC, the Amiga was ~£100 more then the Atari back then.....

    I had an Atari ST first then got a miggy later, the amiga was where the fun really started but you have to tip your hat to the Atari, a LOT of music and musicians would not have entertained us if it wasn't for that machine

    I purchased my copy of eite frontier at the Amiga show at Earls Court, think it was day of release.

    Made the mistake of going to a small Amiga show the other year, very scary bunch of people. You wouldnt want to ware an I Love Bill Gates tshirt there, would inspire scenes from the wickerman

    I never played elite, only played frontier elite but I loved it.
    I do know everything, just not all at once. It's a virtual memory problem.

    Got a pair of A1200's at home. One 1230/28 and a 1240/25 as well as a box of old disks and a monitor and a few other bits and bobs if anyone wants to come fetch them

    Got a modded 1200 in the loft (68030@25Mhz and 8MB w00t!) Keyboard is iffy now, since the ribbon's worn from where I jammed a 3.5" 2GB hard disk in All so that I still wouldn't be able to play Alien Breed 3D well on it...

    Crammond's F1GP was the best game out - and the Amiga version trounced everything else... (though Chaos Engine co-op is a close second) - was never a Sensible Soccer fanboy

    No they don't actually, otherwise people like Alienware would go out of business. There are plenty of companies that specialise in high performance gaming machines.

    If Commodore like, I've got a few straws in my kitchen cupboard that they could grab at?

    (and this is coming from an ex-Amiga fanboy )

    Oh me me me me!! I could run OS4 on that

    I still have my A500 and a CD32. Oh how I miss the wonderful days of the Amiga, I nearly managed to get a Mac G4 for free the other day, was going to install OS4 on it and use it as a media machine for the loving room and have a play!!

    I did once but the police came 'round and spouted all this stuff about laws and decency and the like.

    I miss the donkeys most.
