    At first I too was with Bulldog and all was fine. When they got crappy I went to plus.net who were fine for ages, then got crap then got bought by BT. Now I'm with Eclipse and they seem great so far. MUCH better p2p rates than on plus.net for a start. Recommend looking at http://www.eclipse.net.uk/ if anyone's thinking about jumping ship.

    I've been with Pipex homecall (6mb) since last August (was with Freeserve/Orange(2mb)) before that. Wish I'd never switched to be honest, I may have only been on 2mb with Orange, but my speed never dipped so low that I couldn't play on X-Box Live multiplayer or even connect to X-Fire. The telephone side of things has been good, but then I don't use the phone that often.

    I'm going to have to check to see if I'm tied in for 12 or 18 months before looking for another provider.

    I think the most widespread implications of this move is something not stated by anyone else.. Sky ultimately gave Tiscali the go ahead to bring Stb or TV to peeps and this is another my by the company to beat the ass out of Virgin Media... Long Live TELEWEST!!!

    Does anyone know anything about newnet? they look good to me; look like they provide Zen levels of service....£3 cheaper, 10gb more per month, and they catagorically state they do not traffic shape or throttle ports:

    I'm on newnet this year - just coming to the end of my contract. Their prices have gone up since I joined, and although my line is stable at 8Mbps, I only ever get around 4.

    They've been reliable though.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    That might just be what I've been looking for - £18/month 8Mb and monthly contract.

    Thanks matey, off to look for reviews now

    Yeah, i'm with F2S (chomped up by pipex and as yet no probs.. we'll see how tiscali do), i'm pretty tempted by 24mb as they say they're enabling our exchange this month and the price is alright for what i actually use £2 increase on the current, but if my service is going AWOL then i'm happy for my parents to cough up that little bit extra

    Remember if you agree to any change in your service, you may be locked into a new contract (prob a year, but I've noticed, just recently, that many Co. (not just isp's) are now using 18 month contracts).

    Same here, not a heavy user but like the off peak rollover 50gb a month d/l limit. I feared the worst when Pipex bought them out but this looks bad...

    As a broadband provider Zen are great but I get the impression everyone here already knows that & they're obviously not the cheapest.

    FWIW I can also add a vote to the Tiscali are abysmal camp - I first encountered them when trying to help sort out my then girlfriend's granddad's connection problems. Looking back, they seemed to pioneer the practice of unapologetically retarded customer service which they have since extended into all aspects of their business.

    Personally I always kept well away from them. Then they took over Ukgateway, who I had a legacy email address with from dial up in the 90s. Being subscribed to over fifty mailing lists on it & as it was used as a sign in for likely over a hundred web sites I didn't want to have to change it - as a result I now have to deal with about 200 spam mails per day, compared to under a handful a day in the years before.

    Re: Tiscali to acquire Pipex, c'Hoffs up 210m

    I was with Pipex 3 years ago and had no problems with them then. Then I moved house and joined Zen. I have had no problems with them and the only problem I had was sorted out over the phone in under 10 minutes. As stated they are not the cheapest but there service is exemplary. I have the '8 meg line' but because of the distance between me and the exchange I usually only get 3 meg but I rarely have any problems and im a major online gamer and minor P2P user.

    I would happily recomend Zen to anyone

    They may have pioneered it, but BTs Business lines section seemed to have taken it to a new pinnacle.

    Re: Tiscali to acquire Pipex, c'Hoffs up 210m

    I switched from Pipex to UKFSN. It's £20 a month for 8meg with 30gb cap and no throttling or traffic shaping. I'm very happy with them.
