VIA promise processing without the power (usage)

    .

With GREEN issues everywhere and the whole world gripped by global warming (despite the freezing temperatures and flooding in South East England!), have VIA positioned themselves and their product correctly for the 21st Century ?

Nick gets to grips with VP Richard Brown as he explains exactly how VIA aim to deliver 'Digital Brilliance' everywhere - in smaller, lighter (cuter?) packaging than ever before

Wouldn't say 'non-existent' as much as 'unimportant'

seems like a good idea , imagine a psp sized pc , I'd buy one , I wouldn't need omfgpwnzer ghz pc for browsing whilst on the move.I've got a couple of via mini systems, one is a server and the other a soon to be car pc and they work away fine and quiet too.

I find the claims made about the mobile devices being able to run vista a bit dubious. I'd very much like to see a demonstration of Vista running quite happily on a device with a 600 Mhz processor inside. Unless the MIP's is very high and the version of vista heavily modified I could not see it being usable. That aside a very good, interesting and informative interview!

I imagine it could 'run Vista' in the same way that a P2 166Mhz can 'run XP' - ie. badly. There's just no point having Vista on a device like that as it wouldn't be powerful enough to use features new to Vista, ie. Aero, SuperFetch...

That said, I think it looks attractive. VIA C7 processors are slow though.

Would be interesting to know just how much tweaking the services etc would need (and how much RAM etc) in order to generate an 'experience you would want to repeat'...

Next time we catch up with the VIA guys, we will try and remember to ask for you Digit !
