    Re: Crysis - DX10 hands-on!

    really though whatever mission you play is not the true halo. Halo always has been and always will be a multiplayer game. I played that game every day with a 2 system link up 8 players in a house for about a year on halo 1 and it was awesome. You could loose days and days to it and slag off your mates.

    If they have kept the good bits and lost the bad then it will be a winner, lets hope bungie do well.

    Re: Crysis - DX10 hands-on!

    Im really excited about this game, not just because the graphics are the best graphics on any game so far, but because of the gameplay. I really enjoyed the gameplay of Far Cry, and this game sounds like its not just eye candy. They have tons of nice gameplay features, and everything I've read about the suit sounds fantastic. Its almost like adding an RPG customisation element...

    The only thing that concerns me about this game, is that I don't want to play it on anything other than maximum quality, or you are kind of spoiling it for yourself. And I don't have much hope of that happening on this PC. I may be pleasantly surprised though. I think my 8800GTX will do ok, but its my E6600 at stock speeds that I'm worried about.

    I also need to decide if I should upgrade to Vista 64 for this, or stick with XP. I think I will go the Vista route unless the DX10 aspects of Crysis end up being borked for a while.

    Re: Crysis - DX10 hands-on!

    Personally, I wouldn't go with Vista 64, unless you do a dual boot set-up.

    Purely for the fact that Vista driver support, whilst vastly improved upon since launch, is still patchy, and Vista 64 is even more so.

    Don't forget that when I played this hands-on Crytek had literally just got it working and stable. Sure, it'll be fine for release but I wouldn't expect too much from a 64 bit version of Vista... (plus you could be opening yourself up to a whole load of driver issues for your other kit that lacks 64bit driver support.)

    Re: Crysis - DX10 hands-on!

    I never got Halo. I hated the fact that you can't run, just amble slowly along. But that's just me.

    Didn't like far Cry either, TBH. Although, again, TBH I had to play it with no sound coz my computer is upstairs and I can only play when my son is asleep. I liked the first few levels, but when you get your first "open" island level and have to drive around, I found myself getting lost and v frustrated.

    Sound may have helped, I guess.

    Re: Crysis - DX10 hands-on!

    Thanks for the advice about Vista. I may dual boot actually, because I have enough space on my main disk to split it into two partitions. My E6600 stock and single 8800GTX are my main concern. It should hopefully play it nicely though anyway, even if I end up having to lower a few settings. Although, I might have been able to overclock by then anyway.

    P.S. Not a fan of Halo here either by the way. The Unreal Tourny games where my Halo. I loved Far Cry though. One of the best shooters I've played.

    Re: Crysis - DX10 hands-on!

    You shouldn't have any problems with Crysis on that rig. We have it on record that specs for Crysis are the same as specs for Vista...

    So that's the following:

    # 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
    # 1 GB of system memory
    # 40 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
    # Support for DirectX 9 graphics with:

    * WDDM Driver
    * 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum)
    * Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware
    * 32 bits per pixel

    Taken from here : http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...uirements.mspx

    But I reckon that'd give you a running game at maybe 1024x7687 with most stuff set to low or medium.

    Seeing as you're above that spec you can likely expect to have more bells ringing and whistles blowing.

    Nah, you're thinking of the Campanology and Portamento Simulator 2008 for the Wii and DS.

    Re: Crysis - DX10 hands-on!

    I'm running Vista64 and aside from issues with Creative X-FI drivers (which seem to be solved by the auzentech ones) it's fine. I'll be using that for Crysis with luck. I'm actually surprised by the lack of 64 bit issues - it does appear fairly even as compared to the 32bit one. 64bit support is finally a reality now that Vista is on the scene (and a few of us are hitting the 4gb barrier).
