Mabye not, because of the way these things are abstracted (hex will make fun of this in 3,2,1) effectivly something is seen as a magic storage something. That something will need throtteling, caching etc. That will be used when copying a file from one source to another, regardless of medium.

As this issue was ment to be related to the new TCP stack, its possible that problems will arise with the network, but between physically attached devices, i wouldn't of thought it would.

(but my knowledge of these things is regretabbly less than it once was!)

Well the boards an Asus P5K-E/Wifi so uses the Intel drivers, got the ACHI mode turned on but cant see it being that, unless like I said it is driver related which could then explain the USB issue as well if its a driver bug...

Hmmm... I seem to recall that my P5B Deluxe Wifi uses the same network chipset, so it's looking unlikely that that's the issue (as it's fine on mine) but I do have my SATA setup as IDE (forgot to set it before installing Vista...) so I wonder if that's a possibility?

I didn't see too many improvements with SP1 for Vista. It almost makes me think Microsoft rushed out the first service pack to get all of those people who wait for SP1 status to buy the O/S.

Its being sold on just about every new PC.

I wouldn't mind having a customer base that large

And XP didn't sell well either, nor 2000, nor ME, nor 98 etc etc when they first released.

Most humans hate change and will resist it as long as possible. Those of us who realise change is inevitable and embrace it whenever possible, normally reap the benefits

If sold is the definition we're going by then i'd say 100 million licences sold is probably not too shabby (CES 2008 acc. to billy boy). But seeing as none of this is relevant to the thread at hand..

Honestly, if I had a quid for every time someone posted some pointless rubbish on a Vista thread - well let's just say i'd have quite a bit more than 100 million quid.

Re: Vista SP1 released - the Wow starts again?

How many of those new PCs are then being reformatted to use either an older version of Windows (mainly XP in my experience) or a Linux distro? Additionally, people add OS's so they can dual boot and then end up never using Vista.

Sales and usage are two different things.

Re: Vista SP1 released - the Wow starts again?

Yes a fair few are being reformatted but how long do you think it will be before they concede that they want to run Vista? Will Microsoft let them revert their licence back to Vista?

And sales and usage are very different but why would Microsoft care if people are using it or not as long as they are being paid?

And how does it effect you? Are you a fanboi looking to spread some hatred on Vista (or MS products on the whole) or one of those Linux people who "can't understand why anyone would use a Microsoft OS" ? (other then its ridiculously easy to use, fix and find software for compared to Linux)

There are still a couple of purely cosmetic bugs with Vista, one of which is starting to annoy me but I would not go back to XP, there are already a few features I find invaluable, including proper no-fuss 64bit support.

A handful as few will have an XP disk, and those who do won't have an XP disk that works or uses the BIOS for the serial number rather than the fake one stuck to the PC. Then there are businesses, most of which didn't even rollout XP until SP2.

You're thinking enthusiasts, which make up roughly 0% of the market.

I still use Microsoft products. I run XP inside vmware for embedded toolchains that aren't supported natively on linux.

Also, my choice of linux is Ubuntu as it is easy to use and has a great support community.

You should try it, maybe it would knock that chip off your shoulder.

Re: Vista SP1 released - the Wow starts again?

I use Linux thanks but only in VMware for testing websites (just about all hosting companies use MySQL and Apache on Linux, so I try and keep my test environments the same)

I hate it. Latest example for me was when I decided I wanted to go 64bit, now if Vista can get 64 bit right "out of the box", surely Linux can?

No. It installs fine but as soon as you want to install a server component it needs to be specifically compiled for 64 bit. So, 6 hours of pouring over websites later and I have MySQL and Apache installed on 64 bit.

Now, I am a very technical person. I am a SQL Server DBA and programmer. My experience goes back to the DOS 3.3 days (I am 34)........and all I can say is that Linux is FAR FAR FAR from being ready for the masses.

I have no chip on my shoulder, I just use the best tool for the job at the time whatever it may be and have no allegiances to any company or technology.

If anyone has a chip on their shoulder, it would be the person throwing insults around and not backing up anything he says with anything of any substance.
