I agree that Linux isn't ready for the masses, but neither is Windows, despite having thrown enormous cash at the problem for over 20 years. The majority of people are still far from being tech-savy. I maintain my parents' PC. For years they used Windows, last year I changed them over to Ubuntu. With Windows I was having to support them over the phone maybe once or twice a month. With Ubuntu that has dropped to around 3 or 4 calls per year. That's still not good enough, but a definite improvement in stability.
Until a PC is as reliable as a toaster or TV, then it isn't ready for the masses.
