I think AMD really needs to bring the quad core cpus to £90 or below to make it attractive. They need to shake up the cpu market like what they done with the 48xx series.

The X4 9650 is $156, which at today's exchange rate is around £85.

TRue, but you know there is always a markup for British consumers (I reckon around 30% or so)

The prices I got were from the European arm of Avnet and were approximate street prices. But fair point; there does often seem to be a bit of mucking around with the exchange rate.

Re: Analysis - AMD takes fight to Intel in sub $200 desktop CPU market

I think amd have done what they planned for, dominate the low end. Their decent dual cores(5000/6000 etc) are around £50 which is amazing(was this before cuts iirc) so they can either just sit where they are or start designing an amazing cpu, imo their position is much better than before atleast now they are making less of a loss and causing other sectors chaos(graphics for example). Glad AMD are getting back up because im kinda fed up with intel , i had an old amd 3000 barton and i can hardly notice a different with this new rig which has 1gb more ram, dual core+faster+more ram and +new graphics card(had a 9600ati),
