I agree, i've got enough on my plate to bother learning how the new taskbar works.

No they didn't invent aesthetics. It was more just an observation e.g. the icons from the old taskbar are bigger and are beginning to resemble OSX's dock. There's a lot of healthy blogging about this, here's just a couple:

It seems that MS are trying to get ever closer to the 'mac' look!

It does look like the MAC dock imo, too. I like it.

My guess is that you haven't taken a look at the Windows Media Player screen... Man that looks like it was designed for use by a chimp!
