Looks like the drive to get when Windows 7 is released, I'll be waiting to read a review on how well TRIM performs. Is there any information about TRIM support for Intel 50nm drives?

I don't get why increasing teh random read speed is going to effect reliability.

You will be able to do the same number of writes in half the time, but it's still the same number of writes, so the same level of wear for the same amount of work done. You aren't suddenly going to be doing twice as many writes just because it is twice as fast to do so.

Re: News - Intel launches 34nm SSDs, promises lower prices and improved performance

Hi, I was lucky to order one of Intel's 2nd gen SSDs before my retailer was sold out (within hours).

Have just benchmarked my 40GB Seagate Barracude for comparison:

And here is the benchmark from someone who just received his 2nd gen SSD yesterday:

    OS: Windows 7

Isn't odd that the 4K read is half the 4K write? Great performance anyway, but odd to me.

It is unless you already bought one at the higher price.

I bought one at £330 for my netbook a few months back. A truly massive speed increase, but I haven't needed the netbook this year. So I could have bought this newer x25-m:80 for ~£180 (Scan) next year, saving the dosh.

Therefore, Intel's really got on my nerves. Strange that: reduce prices; annoy people.

(Conclusion: don't be an early invester.)

LMAO baius, sorry but thats what you get for buying at the cutting edge.... cut. I would imagine that within a few months you will be able to get drives of this size and speed for 2/3rds the money and by xmas half the price.

    2/3rds maybe, but not 2/5ths.

A 60% discount is just painful.

I think you have to pick your investments wisely.. for example investing early in an 8800GTX and a Q6600 probably would have been a good move... an SSD under todays/early prices not so much

I hear what you say. However, I did calculate that it was worth the money at the time to speed up my netbook. (Which it has done. Considerably.)

I also reasoned I could transfer it to my new Ion netbook (when I get it).

So whilst I'm a 'lil bitter I didn't get it cheaper, I don't feel it was a bad purchase. I think.

In fact, the prices haven't come down "by 60%" so far. In addition, the review sites didn't cite massive performance increases for the 34nm drives. (Weren't there recalls??)
