Re: News - Microsoft defends high Kinect price

They can defend it all they want. It's priced to high. They say it will add another level of gaming, for what exactly? The family and kids games that will be out for it in time for Christmas? The odd exercise game. They claim some heightened experience but in my eyes you will loose the feeling in some games. For example, racing, yes I can hold my arms out and steer and change gear etc, where's the feedback? How do I judge when I am about to slide out or hitting a rumble strip etc?

Over priced and far to gimmicky, cashing in on what the Wii has and they would like a cut, same with Sony and their Move. Big no for me, the only way I can see this working is in a big living room, plenty of space etc. The side of it for the media control! Waving my arms about is just as easy as using an analogue stick to move left and right. I don't see the added bonus of having one of these, especially when for the price of the Kinect I could buy a Wii itself xD

That's pretty much the killer. It's impressive that Wii prices have remained more or less static actually, while other consoles have had to drop prices to keep sales up. But it is a console designed around the interface and likewise the software titles are already there to take advantage of it. Raving Rabids just would not work without the motion controllers!

I'm going to have to agree, the price for a glorified motion sensor is way too high. Especially when you consider MS originally quoting a price of 'No more than $50'. I'm in the UK and the price of this has been announced as £129.99 which is currently $198 US.

I got the new Xbox and I'm relatively impressed with it. But rest assured I won't be buying Kinect, not at this price.

we all know what happened to the eye toy and i cant help thinking the same is gonna happen here, granted MS will support this platform better than how sony treated its eyetoy, but will the game developers bother?

But have MS actually ever said that - no, otherwise there would be an even bigger furore surrounding the price.

Onto the thing itself, for me its to expensive - but relatively i don't know if it works out that expensive. You don't have to buy two controllers for everyone to enjoy it and you get a game free with it.
Another interesting choice they've taken for me personally, is the lower RRP for Kinect titles, I'm not to sure if its MGS games only or all but its a step in the right direction for mass appeal.

It will be cheap if it really is the "next level" of gaming. But I doubt it.

The other issue with this now is MS have confirmed it needs 6ft of space to play the games on Kinect. Rules me our straight away, the 360 is in a box room with the pc and a spare bed, its so cramped I only have to turn 45 degree's to move from the PC to the 360. Only spare room in the house.

£50 for the Move plus required Eye

£35 for the Move on its own

£25 for the Eye on its own

£25 for the "Navigation Controller" needed for most Move games (although you can apparently hold a SIXAXIS one-handed instead)

Re: News - Microsoft defends high Kinect price

Have Microsoft been taking pages from the apple school of pricing on this?

Not that I'm really bothered as I've saved a little and will be getting this on launch, but it is a little bit steep, but at the end of the day, if it keeps the kids happy quiet and active I'll be quite happy.

The thing is, it looks like I'll need another xbox 360 at this rate to go with the 2 already setup at home lol

Re: News - Microsoft defends high Kinect price

I have to say I'm disappointed by this price level, but not surprised.

At that price, I will not be buying. If they halved it, maybe, But at that price, not a hope in hell.

I guess only time will tell if large enough numbers of people will buy at that price for the price to hold, but personally, I'd buy a Wii before I'd pay that for Kinect.

It looks boring tbh, I'd rather splash the cash on a wii. I can see the games that come with it/ are released for it being flops. I think one involves hitting red rubber balls that are directed your way. Quite frankly, I'd be bored after 5 minutes of that! Kinect? No thanks!
