I will be upgrading to an i5 3570k, unless any amazingly good deals on 2500k's appear (not likely). I only run a Q6600 so it seems pointless to but anything else at this point in time (just need to decide what to cool it with, i suspect my gelid Tranquillo will need replaced)

Re: Features - QOTW: will you be buying an Intel Ivy Bridge CPU?

I'm planning both 3570k and 3770k or 2x 3770k depending on finances, one for gaming/rendering the other for video editing (his/hers). The Q9450 will become a VM host while the X2 4200 and Sempron 3100+ are both due for retirement (NAS sorted them out).
Not happy the OC temps are causing (minor) issues but I see no point in choosing older Sandybridge CPUs when the TDP and power draw are better in day-to-day apps.
I'm hoping Nvidia pull something substantial out of the GPU bag though as I want a playable minimum 2560 with everything switched on as my 4650 can barely cope with WOW. £215 for a pre-clocked 7850 is still more than I want to spend!

Re: Features - QOTW: will you be buying an Intel Ivy Bridge CPU?

I'm still using a Q6600 (@3GHz) with a GTX260. I'm getting restless for an upgrade, probably to Sandy Bridge, due to disappointing OC performance from Ivy Bridge. I don't care about the increasing on-board GPU capabilities of modern processors, since they are doomed to be (very) memory bandwidth starved.

I think the only reason on-board GPU power is moving ahead so quickly is because it's all AMD are really good at - and Intel feel they have to try and compete. I don't like the idea that an expensive new CPU is expensive partly because it features a large GPU that I won't even use.

Presumably AMD are hoping for some breakthrough in DRAM technology to make faster on-die GPUs usable.

Im running an E6600 in my main machine (weirdly I have better in the machine I have in garage) it is time for an upgrade and I think Ivy Bridge is enough of a tock to buy it over sandy bridge.

I just bought a 3770k and ivybridge board for a friend. he's jumping from a 2.8ghz dual core amd to IB.

The QOTW is disarmingly simple: will you be buying an Intel 3rd Generation Core processor?
I doubt it. My current main machine does everything I need of it, and until that situation changes, I plan no major changes.

Firstly, a slight LOL at Hexus trying to be Engadget with this (and other) articles. Not necessarily a bad thing, mind you.

Secondly, could there be a yes/no/maybe/? poll for this forum thread?

Thirdly, Tunnah encapsulates my view. (See below.) I have a Gen1 Core i5 DualCore that's still most adequate. Some new games are 720p, but I can't see the difference at 1080p.

Yup. But not until the end of the year. Mega expensive summer holiday coming up and I'm buy a new car next week!! No cash for new chips/upgrades.
My C2D E4300 1.8GHz (o/c3GHz) is looking (and playing) a little long in the tooth. Though Diablo 3 is running pretty damn smooth on Max settings.

An Ivy Bridge will be my next upgrade unless a tock comes along first.
