Re: Features - QOTW: Are you happy with your broadband provider?

I've been happy with O2's customer service and line stability, but the best I've managed to sustain speed-wise from them has been around 5Mbit/s down and 1Mbit/s up. Suffice to say, now that BT Infinity is enabled in my area, my intention is to move to this shortly, as I should then get nominally up to around 59Mbit/s down and 20Mbit/s up.

I'm currently rather happy with our current VM 60MB consistantly getting high speeds, though the recent steam sale has resulted in me seeing the throttling in action. I've also been quite lucky in that I've never had to call them with any issues, as I've heard that can be a very mixed affair.

Given that my only choices are BT or TalkTalk, and both are slow ADSL, I'm equally happy whatever provider I use.
    i.e. deeply dissatisfied.

Re: Features - QOTW: Are you happy with your broadband provider?

No problems with my BT 18 Mb/sec line. Fast enough for me, but in a few months I will give Virgin a go as its cheaper and faster. Seems as long as you don't have problems then all is good with most providers.

Re: Features - QOTW: Are you happy with your broadband provider?

Been with BT/Openreach for years no issues with broadband connection only 6mbps, what is really p***ing me off is not being able to get BT Infinity which their checker started saying would be available Dec 2010, the damn cab at the end of the street is installed yet everytime it gets within 2 weeks of activation date they put it back 3 months. Currently checker states Sept 30th 2012 and I am sure it will next say Jan 2013 2 years to enable a cab what a joke!!!!!!

I think my current ISP is the best of a very bad bunch. ADSL in the UK is a complete mess. If you are trying to rely on it to run a small business...You just can't!

Very pleased with my 60Mb VM connection. It's fast and stable. Less impressed with the overseas "support" department. They don't seem to know what they're doing.

Virgin Media - I'm happy with the broadband service, just not their pricing or range of available services. I don't need 8mb broadband, but it's the lowest that is available to me. Same goes for the TV packages and phone line too. I get them all as a bundle, and pay just shy of 60 quid. I'd shop around if I thought I could significantly save money, but I've looked, and I can't

Re: Features - QOTW: Are you happy with your broadband provider?

BT in Scotland is way behind the rest of the UK in bringing in faster broadband. Lethargy from both the Scottish Government and BT is mainly responsible. It can be difficult with extensive rural areras but if Wales can expect to get 96% on faster broadband by 2015 it is high time some real action was taken here. Trying to stir up meaningful action is like knitting with cooked spaghetti--All the people who should be doing something simply pass the buck.

Re: Features - QOTW: Are you happy with your broadband provider?

Not best impressed with Virgin. Was on 50mb with no traffic management, then they announced a "free" doublespeed upgrade, scheduled to get to me in July. Then they announced traffic management changes, so if I actually use my bb at peak times I often get 25mb. No worries, I'm getting doublespeed in July. Cue checking again and finding it's been moved to between December and May next year... grrr

Roll on the end of my contract so I can go to one of the infinity packages. Sure they're not as quick, but as least they're consistent! Unlike Virgin, and I've not even mentioned the worst piece of CPE ever in the SuperHub!

Proof that you shouldn't always look at headline speed numbers

    Ecstatic

Over 55MBit down, over 70MBit up (weird but consistent).

Re: Features - QOTW: Are you happy with your broadband provider?

Because fibre via BT is not here until next year, I decided to give Virgin 60mbs a go. When my workplace got BT fibre to the office, I couldnt handle going home to such a rubbish ADSL speeds.

I get a couple of connection issues a month, but a 'turn off turn on' for their router is all it takes. Occasionally the jitter is all over the place during their peak times but thinking about it, I have not had a problem for a while.
The quality of the line is good overall, I get 12-18 pings in games and downloads are fantastic, for the first time I actually exceed some server download limits.
I do not get good upload speeds, they have yet to upgrade my exchange to support the full 100MB/s - but I just dont need that download speed. I could do with the promised 10MB upload however.
Support was surprisingly good in their Forums and they fixed a fault within 24 hours without hassle.

Now that BT fibre is at 80MBps for the same price I'm not really sure what I will do when my contract is up. It will depend on the upload speed as that is something I was hoping to use more of.

What is certain is that I will never go back to ADSL!!!! I'd rather have no Internet than those speeds again.

AOL are useless. Fairly slow with one computer connected. With more than one computer, it's terrible and connection is constantly lost. They're ****!!!
