Re: Features - QOTW: Are you happy with your broadband provider?

Currently with the Post office Broadband, which I was happy with when it was using BT as it's service provider - But I've just discovered they're moving their service from BT to TalkTalk which I'm not happy about (as TalkTalk are one of the most complained about service providers out there). It's a shame as I found the Post Office service pretty reliable, and I've downloaded gb's of data from Steam/xbox Live/PSN/iPlayer with never a word from them about their fair use policy.

I couldn't be any less happy with BT's abysmal service.

For a period of about 2-3 weeks I'll get around 1.5Mb but after that it's straight back to the dark ages (around 200kb-350kb) for another month or so. Completely ridiculous and in my opinion, entirely unacceptable in this day and age.

The worst part is we have a choice of 3 providers:
    Bt - who suck.
Talk Talk - who suck and use BT's infrastructure.
Sky - who use BT's infrastructure.

Maybe a ridiculous statement - but have you reported to this to BT? Especially if you threaten to leave to go to Sky (TalkTalk have hideous customer service rep). Not to make excuses to BT, but perhaps there's some fault that they could chase down. Give 'em a bell next time you're down to the enhanced dialup speeds?

I'm fairly happy with Sky Broadband.

Hasn't been down in the 15 months I've had it, and I get a pretty consistent 12Mbit/sec - a little more than what they originally predicted for my line.

    Cheap enough too.

You would be surprised if you use SKY. I use sky who use BT's copper wires and i get a consistant and non problematic service albeit at 8mb, but still better than most providers

With Sky but paying £40 a month for average internet/almost freeview like TV and limited phone line. Not that happy but has been consistent. They do throttle, hopefully switching to fibre next year.

I have Sky, and I'd be happier if I got even half of that 8MB (but I don't), and it's anything but consistent. It regularly disappears, for hours at a time, altogether. And, I can see the local BT exchange from my window.

Well Virgin is very unreliable but once it gets going very good, but the only downside ive found is the TV boxes are absolute poo they take a bout 30 seconds to process a button press and it turns of every 10mins

Is that Virgin's ADSL or cable service you're on? From what I gather the ADSL service isn't the best - a lot of people complaining about it. On the other hand, the cable service seems to be a lot more reliable.

And speaking of reliability - agree with you about the TV boxes - what a pile of ****. Although the V+HD box we moved to last year was light years better than the older boxes we had. Then again, I'll argue vehemently that the "SuperHub" that the cable broadband folks get supplied with is also a POS.

Zen internet, whose service us provisioned through BT's FTTC. Excellent customer service, no throttling, relible service, excellent speeds (about 60/15 - although obviously that varies depending on the connection to remote servers, but the line speed itself is 70/16) and good customer service. No complaints.

Re: Features - QOTW: Are you happy with your broadband provider?

It has been about six months since we changed from Sky to BT Infinity and my only disappointment with the service is that while many exchanges have been upgraded to double the speed of the connection being offered my exchange is not one of them, it doesn't really matter much, because my connection is 'fast enough' but if other people can get double the speed for no extra money well then I want it too.
