IMHO, theres not a PC out there that wouldn't benefit from a SSD. Even just a small one for windows only makes a huge difference to the responsiveness of the system.

Not much on the agenda really, still very happy with my current PC.

There's a very faint possibility of a 27" 2560*1440 monitor, but I doubt it. They'd have to come down to maybe £200 before I'd definitely do it.

A new motherboard as mine on occasion doesn't like to return out of sleep and crashes.

Re: Features - QOTW: New year, new upgrades. What's on your shortlist?

I want a new case, and the Carbide 200R looks like the kind of budget case that would fit my needs. Originally I planned to buy that plus a cheap USB 3 card to hook to its front ports, but then I won 16GB of DDR3, and since I still have a DDR2 motherboard, I figured that while I'm upgrading the case I might as well get a new 970 or 990 motherboard for my Phenom II X6.

Re: Features - QOTW: New year, new upgrades. What's on your shortlist?

Can anyone suggest a reasonable (sub £200) Nvidia card? I'm more than happy with AMD, but I'm going green because the future of my job is looking to include some CUDA work and I want to have a play with it. So, needs to have better performance than a HD4870 which - tbh - handles everything I throw at it with aplomb. Obviously it's for playing games too, but I'm working through my Steam back catalogue before I buy new stuff - latest love is Borderlands 2, but that's not particularly taxing (I can run it on a four year old Macbook windowed without any real problems).

I'm out of the loop entirely on this, but I would assume that the current mid range Nvidia cards will be reasonable?

Otherwise I don't think I need anything except more space on the desktop (already at 5TB) or possibly cloning my Windows drive to a 256GB SSD.
