I wanted to get a 3D TV after working in a cinema for a while and seeing a lot of 3D movies, but I couldn't justify it as there was nothing wrong with my 5+ year old 40" LCD.

No 3D for me. The missus gets headaches when watching it, and I don't think it's 'natural' enough. Also, after Avatar (2009) came out there was a raft of movies all jumping on the 3D band wagon. But rather than push the technology forward, and keep making it better, a lot of these movies tacked on the 3D as an afterthought (Clash of the Titans, I'm looking at you (or not)).
How does filming in regular format then postprocessing into 3D do anything to improve the format? It doesn't. It's lazy and poor quality. And the consumer suffers. People then think that 3D is simply a gimmick and don't bother with it. Thus, the BBC cancel their 3D programming.
At least Peter Jackson is doing it right with The Hobbit with the super awesome Red Epic cameras.
I'll give it ten years, then when my current telly (40" Toshiba ZF355D) gives up the ghost, 3D and 4K will be default TV tech. Then I'll get 3D
I've got a 3D TV and don't get me wrong, when you have a good film to watch or there is something like tennis, which the 3D feature works really well with then its a worthwhile investment. But I struggle to find many films or programs which I actually like to watch in 3D.
I had a 42" LG 3d TV from a catalogue, but then couldn't afford to keep it along with everything else I'd got from there, so sent it there. I used 3d on one or two games and used it to watch 3d movies, but usually just left it in 2d. The image quality in 2d and 3d was still better then the 37" Toshiba TV I reverted back to though. I wish I'd kept my 3d TV.
I sent it back, not sent it there.
The posts on Hexus these days are becoming more and more incomprehensible. I usually have to read them twice and even then I am still wondering what is going on.

Yes I brought a Samsung 3D TV (UE40EH6030) I know this is the lowest end Samsung 3D TV for the series but I had an top end Samsung smart TV and don't get me wrong the picture quality was great but there was just something about the 3D TV even when not using that feature makes it look so much better.
Unlike robot butlers, cars that fly and miracle rejuvenation treatments, 3D tablets are an actual fact. They might not capture the audience more than 3D TV's do, but 3D TV's exist, and 3D tablets make as much sense and are more user friendly (no need for glasses).
