    lol

Strangely I have been looking forward to the 8.1 update for a really long time, I decided against the preview release and have also stayed clear of any discussions on it as I wanted to wait for the release and try it out, but when I saw it last night I decded to wait a bit longer and have only just started the update now, so it has 3.8gb to download and should be installing after that.

I had that after upgrading my work laptop. Try uninstalling then reinstalling them, that worked for me.

Me too! I also use their ModernMix in combination with it (this stops Metro/Modern apps going fullscreen) which makes using W8 a lot better.

Re: News - Windows 8.1 downloads available from 12-noon today in the UK

Thanks for the heads up on the keyboard settings changing, when I installed the update I noticed there was a box next to the Accept button for the EUI, and clicking this allowed me to change my keyboard settings back to UK before I completed the installation.

So far everything has been smooth, no hiccups etc... but not yet had a chance to check that everything works as it should. Loving the way I resize groups of icons in Metro, not sure if that was there before, but now I can right click on the metro screen then select 'Customise' and tick all the icons I want to resize.

^Ditto ClassicShell - I got a couple of bundle offers on the Stardock kit so I went for them in the end.

Re: News - Windows 8.1 downloads available from 12-noon today in the UK

Well, I let the update download overnight, left it applying itself this morning to my micro server and then came back to find a cryptic error message that it had failed to install.

The best part of 4 gb is not a minor undertaking on my 'broadband' so my generally underwhelming impression of W8 (which I've held since trying the first CP) has been maintained.

Edit - it appears to be an issue with the onboard NIC on the N40L and Windows 8.1 - see here.

Re: News - Windows 8.1 downloads available from 12-noon today in the UK

I have reverted back to 8.0 for now. the interface for my killernetwork card on my motherboard was really messed up. I tried reinstalling the drivers to solve the issue and the driver wouldn't reinstall I got the error the installer doesnt support this version of windows installer will now quit and other people are having the same issue with different motherboards as well.
I done a system restore to get ethernet working again. Battlefield 3 wouldn't work due to punkbuster not working. For now I have restored an image from before 8.1 and will try again in a few weeks.

Upgraded both my PC & Tablet to 8.1, great update, some really good improvements, especially running on the tablet !

Seriously considering a mobile upgrade soon from the Samsung Note 2 to the new Nokia Lumia 1520, my only hesitation for the phone is the app store, i feel it still isn't there yet !

Grrr. Updated a few days ago and PC is unable to shutdown. It just reboots everytime. Worked fine pre 8.1 upgrade. Tried upgrading bios etc but still not working. I've ended up enabling hibernate and using that instead but its very frustrating - Any body else experience this?

That sounds like a driver issue. The first thing you should do is download and install/reinstall your motherboard chipset drivers
