Probably my SNES, what a console. I still remember the feeling of playing Zelda and Street Fighter 2 on it. I also remember bouncing it off a wall in a teenage rage after losing one too many times - it dented the wall, cracked the casing slightly but still worked perfectly. Good old Nintendo
The Dreamcast and Gamecube were also favourites of mine. The Star Wars rebel squadron (or whatever it was called) on GameCube was a masterpiece that I never managed to finish -that final level was a killer for me. Also Super Monkey Ball - great game. Lost many hours on Soul Caliber on the Dreamcast too.
I had a few turkeys of consoles in my time too. The Sega Saturn, which I promptly returned, wasn't up to much. I also had one of the few Atari Jaguars ever sold - that ridiculous gamepad, what were they thinking?
NES and SNES!
Dreamcast, hands down. While I'm largely a PC gamer, I do own a few consoles, and have played games on most every non-current-gen console. If I could only keep one console, it would be the Dreamcast. I love the style, size, feel, ergonomics, and most importantly: the games. Skies of Arcadia, Shenmue I & II, Sakura Taisen 1-4, Virtua Tennis, Ikaruga, SEGA Rally 2, Soul Calibur, Chu Chu Rocket, Crazy Taxi, and sooooo many more.
Super Nintendo, Genesis, PS2 and Xbox are all distant runners up (and Xbox aside, are better emulated on a good PC). Beyond these, most other consoles just doesn't have enough games I enjoy to really endear it to me.
Playstation 1. Ah the good old days.
Realy? what a question lol
MSX2 , i had it , grew up with it ,and compared it still has the best games ever made.
Metal gear started on MSX as did final fantasy and vampire killer.
Games like Hydlide , X.A.K. and dragonslayer series are still the best RPG games today
Probably my Gamecube.
What an underrated console!
My previous ones were a Meagdrive my dad owned, and a PSone. But the GC was the one I desired above all others from that gen, and to make certain my parents were getting me one for christmas the year it came out, I bought Super Mario Sunshine and read the manual every day! What an arsey 12yo I was! Haha!
Definetly the DS
Gamecube <3
As an Amiga gamer, I didn't get a console until I saw Gran Turismo running in my local Blockbuster on a Playstation. First time I've bought something so spontaneously. So it'll always have a special place in my heart.
My personal console history goes NES, Gameboy, Dreamcast, Playstation 2, Sony PSP 1, Playstation 3. Although there have been many other consoles in our family (Master System, Megadrive, Saturn, Playstation 1, SNES, Atari 2600 and loads more). My gaming life could end there as I've switched to PC gaming over the last few years, but I may pick up a PS4 when they come down to a price point where it's almost a gimme.
Also had 2 Amiga 500s (think the first one must have died) 2 Amiga 1200s (after I got my own and stuck it in a tower) and an Amiga 1500, but we'll discount those as they were a lot more than game consoles.
If I was to pick one of the above then I'd go for the Dreamcast. Some great games in it's short lived history. Still got one now which is in great condition and good fun to play. The Playstation 2 was jaw dropping at the time (The beams of light coming through the trees on Gran Turismo 3 were stunning) and I have so many great memories with my NES; usually from gaming all nighters when I was a kid, playing games until the sun came up during the summer holidays.
I've not been a big sit-down console fan ... although if pressed I'd admit to really quite liking the 2nd XBox 360 I got (first one went RRoD and was replaced by a later model that I then traded in for a Slim - which is the one I'm talking about). PS2 would also get a shout. Wii is a fun device, but a bit too cutesy for it's own good.
On the other hand I quite like hand held consoles, especially the old Sega Game Gear - which felt chunky in a good way. Best console - in terms of getting the most use - has to be my old Nintendo DSi. Used that one a lot then eventually traded it in for a DSi XL - which is still in the house. Looked at the 3DS but wasn't impressed.
Love the nostalgia aspect of this thread though - talk of MSX's and Amigas (both of which I had) and the Vectrex that I hankered for. At this rate I'll have to dig out the old Vic-20!
First console I got was an original Playstation which I bought just so I could play FFVII, it was well used but I think i'm going to have to plump for the PS2 for the amount of use that got, I think I burnt my way through 3 of them just through pure use and I still get it out occasionally now. I bought an XBOX 360 after the PS2 but don't use it much and all my gaming is primarily done via PC these days.
N64 Goldeneye and Banjo Kazooie
Easily the SNES followed by the Dreamcast.
