Nope.
Sandy Bridge isn't struggling with anything, and I have to admit that my passion for upgrading has waned considerably in recent years.

I will upgrade if I win this competition.
I tempted, but I need to do the sums, and it's DDR4 that's going to make it too expensive to justify by the looks of it. I have an i5 750 running at 4Ghz (built Feb 2010) with a couple of GTX680's in SLI & an Intel SSD, plenty quick enough, but I fancy building a new system soon so may just go for one based on a 4790k.
Do I need a faster system, no not really, do I want a faster system, yes of course :-) but I'll probably wait until just after Christmas.
I'll tell you what makes me cross: there's no drives on the market to fully use any of the new storage options. There are no 1T M.2 drives in existence. There are no drives of ANY size on Sata Express in existence. If you want a large SSD, you're looking at Ye Olde Satae 3. Or if you don't mind the size issue, the best drive on the market is an OEM drive Samsung would much prefer you don't buy.
Where are the storage announcements to go with these boards?
No, still using a T9600 Elitebook and it's sufficient for everything apart from gaming and video editing.
Unless I win the competition, probably not.
It has only been a year since I finally switched to a system with DDR3!
Nope way too expensive especially DDR4 my x79 system is just fine with my 3820 @4.6 if there are any upgrades being done its monitor, another gpu and i7 4930K
think memory manufactures see dollar signs and want to rip us off with extortionate prices think they will find the wont sell as much as they thought and prices will fall quite quickly
Only if I win one, or until it's 3-4 generations older, and 80% less expensive...
Me too kalniel, I found some things written about the high cost of DDR4 to be off base considering 16GB is within £80 of what I paid for my memory. I remember DDR3 being more than double the cost of DDR2 when it came out so this is a good improvement.
My 3930K is still excessive, so don't see the point in upgrading 3 'generations' on

I really don't need those specs. So no thanks.
Offcoz if money is available!
Unfortunately due to a lack of funds, I won't be upgrading, I'll take the cheaper option and paint more 'go faster stripes on my current pc box'![]()
I definitely won't be upgrading to this.Eight cores, 16 threads, DDR4 memory and new boards. What's not to like? Will you be upgrading to Intel X99?
1. my existing 6 way PhenomII is working fine for me (the old "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" idea);
2. if I did need an 8-way and was willing to do the "TDP no option" route then an AMD FX9590 would be a straight swap in - and a LOT cheaper than the Intel part even ignoring the need on the X99 to get a new motherboard, memory and probably HSF;
3. I want my next processor to have a TDP less than what I've got now - cutting power and cooling requirements;
4. DDR4 and X99 isn't "proven" as far as I'm concerned, so - to me at least - the smart money would be on waiting until after Christmas when everything has bedded in, and the gotta-have-at-all-costs brigade have bought theirs so the costs have fallen;
5. Is it really going to be a quantum leap over the current top-of-the-line Intel gen? And I've never been a big fan of the "extreme" line anyway, I'm obviously too boring for them;
6. Got a hideously expensive family holiday to Florida next year to pay for, and a large existing credit card bill to boot, so even if #1-5 weren't issues then I just don't have the where-withal to waste the kind of money that would be needed. And if I did have that kind of money to splash, then I'd prefer to spend it on upgrading the storage in my current Windows rig, or perhaps replacing my main machine - a Linux laptop - with some more powerful/modern SFF system.
YUP It's time to MOVE, for me X99 is a DREAM Machine!!! Finally i will pass my 3770k system to my little brother.
