Re: Features - QOTW: Will you be upgrading to Intel X99?

No. There's no appreciable increase in performance over X79 for me and I can add a few more GPUs to my setup before I start to give my PSU a good work out . I'm only on a 3820k and a 4820k and if I upgrade it'll likely be to a hex core 3930/3960k or something like that rather than paying premium and starting all over again.

For me it's definitely way too expensive to justify.

If I get my new job, I might as I need a upgrade. Might wait until all the fuss dies down too.

Not now. Maybe later if I find I need 6-8 cores.....although I can't see that happening any time soon....quite the opposite I expect.

Have waited with an 8 year old Core 2 Quad pushed hard for too long. Definitely due a new system but it will depend on the performance of the 5820K and 5830K in overclocking.

Re: Features - QOTW: Will you be upgrading to Intel X99?

I already have a 5960X, Asus X99 Deluxe mobo, and 16GB Corsair 2800 DDR4 RAM in my hot little mits. Everything else is from my existing 4770K rig, including an Asus Direct CU II 780Ti and a Noctua NH-D15 cooler until I decide which WC AIO I want to buy. Everything will reside in a white Phanteks Enthoo Primo.

Re: Features - QOTW: Will you be upgrading to Intel X99?

Nope. TBH I only upgraded from my 930 to my 3770 because I got a good deal and fancied downsizing my pc footage.

The 3770 is still more than capable for me that I knocked off the boost so I could run it nice and cool with just a big shuriken. The only area I will be needing to upgrade a few times in the next few years is my GPU and SSD size.
Grab that. Get that. Check it out. Bring that here. Grab anything useful. Take anything good.

No. Let's see a video card with HDMI 2.0, DP 1.3 and a SSD approaching 4GB/sec first.

Re: Features - QOTW: Will you be upgrading to Intel X99?

10GB ethernet, USB 3.1 and DP 1.3 is what a new platform needs. That, and 2+GB/sec SSD and a GPU that can actually run games on ultra at 4K without SLI or Crossfire.

If you have something like a good sandy bridge 2500k/2600k, the first platform that's going to make sense for an upgrade is the Skylake refresh. By that time Intel is going to add native USB 3.1 and probably have DP 1.3. The first Skylake will not have USB 3.1 native.

On LGA2011 it makes sense to upgrade for the 8core though, pro apps benefit from more cores ... but not now, wait until DDR4 is a year old.

PS: Big up for people who run 5960x for gaming. You are awesome. No, you really are, and Intel thanks you for it.
