Re: News - QOTW: Do you still buy Blu-rays?

Given I have (to the best of my knowledge, anyway) no way to play or read a bluray disc, and never had have, it's tricky to answer the question "Do you still buy blurays" - in much the same vein as you can't really answer the question "Do you still beat your wife?" I have never bought a bluray, and I'm pretty sure I never will. The only time I've watched a film on bluray (the new Tron), I kept getting distracted by how "uncanny valley" it was....

OTOH, I still frequently buy DVDs, particularly box sets.

I don't touch any steaming as the quality just isn't there.

I watch most films at the cinema and the ones I like I wait until they are £2-5 on blu-ray.

I also have a rather large collection of HD-DVDs!

You can't beat Blu-ray ( yet) for quality of sound and screen for all that Netflix and others offer

I'm a lot like Ferral on this, plus Blu-Rays of anything I like the most means not worrying about the uncertainty of licensing making you wonder whether it will be available on Netflix or similar at the time(s) you want to watch them again.

Never really made a bluray collection. I was never particularly enthusiastic about it. Good quality? Sure. Enough for me to really care? Not really.

And it doesn't help that the ISPs are greedy money grubbers with insufficient competition, and they voted in a hyper-regressivist like Abbott who killed off just about all state incentives to improve the country's internet infrastructure.

Re: News - QOTW: Do you still buy Blu-rays?

When you invest 100's of pounds on TV , speakers and amp - bluray offers the best quality for film/shows - no service does DTS-HD or 3D....

Also streaming services don't give you the extra's found on DVD's/Blurays - I'm not one that watches them too be honest , but alot of people.

Looking forward to 4K bluray next year - think until this is launched , 4K TV's have limited potential. On that note, I think 4K hard media won't sell that much and will decline over the years.

I never stopped buying Blurays either but most of my blurays include movies with heavy vfx and recently I bought a PS4. So I enjoy movies more in PS4 than watching in my computer and everyone should own Lord of The Rings trilogy on bluray, it is just fantastic.

I watch a lot of streaming services, but if there is any film I really like I buy it on Blu-ray just for the increase in quality.

Re: News - QOTW: Do you still buy Blu-rays?

Never owned a dedicated player, closest I've come is my PS3. I'd still stick a 5.25" reader in my desktop if I could pick one up at the right price though; same goes for the discs, I've bought my favourite 4 or 5 films on Blu-Ray but other than that I prefer to stream via Netflix or watch straight off my HDD. I would still consider buying more discs for ~£5 though, if there was a film I thought warranted it.

Only Blu-Rays I currently own are: 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later, Layer Cake, Gladiator, Men In Black and Band of Brothers.

Braveheart and Kingdom of Heaven are the only other films I'm thinking of getting, for now.

That said, if I saw The Sopranos and Star Wars on Blu-Ray for the right price I'd probably snap them up too.

I loan them from the Library.

The streaming does have convenience but Blu-ray is something else. This will also depend on the remastering of old titles onto Blu-ray as they're not created equal.
