Totally correct. It's a gullible public being told that bigger numbers are better, the same is happening with hires audio too. Completely unnecessary. If titles are done well, remastered if required then 4K would be stunning but when studios can't even be bothered to produce new masters for Blu-Ray why are people so taken in with 4K?

I do occasionally buy Blu-Ray, yes. Mostly though, I get them for free, through work.

I prefer BD to streaming, mainly as sound quality's better, and there's no chance of buffering.

Strangely, if I've recorded a film of the telly on the Tivo, it's rare I'll watch it, but if it's on broadcast telly, or I have the disk, I will.

I would still consider buying more discs for ~£5 though, if there was a film I thought warranted it.

Only Blu-Rays I currently own are: 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later, Layer Cake, Gladiator, Men In Black and Band of Brothers.

Braveheart and Kingdom of Heaven are the only other films I'm thinking of getting, for now.

That said, if I saw The Sopranos and Star Wars on Blu-Ray for the right price I'd probably snap them up too.
Despite having originally said this, I've just picked up the complete series of Battlestar Galactica (remake) and the Dark Knight trilogy for <£35 in Amazon's Black Friday sales.
