I don't have any blu-rays. I've bought some for relatives etc. but none for myself. I did have a few HD-DVDs though...
As the article says, Netflix is just too good!

Yes, I've got about 80 in my collection which I've bought over the last seven years, but I've bought only about three or four this year as I'm choosy what I watch multiple times. I've started to stream films via google play mainly but that won't stop stop me buying blu-rays if I like the film though.

Got ~900 dvd's and ~200 blus so its a definite yea buy all the time, I kinda have a hierarchy, if I like or think i'll like I'll buy, if i'm not sure I'll rent (blu-ray), if it seems really crap I'll stream. However for TV I'm becoming more and more happy with just streaming (I've sub to Netflix and Amazon so I've got a decent choice).
Never bought one in my life. Netflix all the way.
Like quite a few (judging on the replies) I reserved Blu-rays* for a few select titles. Actually there's no point in getting movies that the kids might want to see on BD because they don't have BD players, but can play DVD. And being a total luddite/skinflint I don't really believe that the difference in quality between a BD title and a "good" DVD is necessarily worth the price premium charged.
Streaming services are great for those "I just want to watch something other than Strictly" moments, but anything that I'd actually want to rewatch I'll still buy a physical copy of. Physical copies are great in that once you've got it in your sweaty little hands, thats it - no worrying about losing access to it if you cancel a subscription, or if the streaming service decides to flush an old film to make room for new stuff.
(* need to clean my glasses - originally read that title as "Do you still buy blurries" - which sounds like a flip term for pirated DVD's)
Yes: DTS-HD Master Audio, that's why. I have cloth ears and on a decent home cinema system even *I* can tell the difference between that and the Dolby Digital 5.1 or (ugh!) Dolby Pro-Logic that you get from Netflix.
It depends on the movie if its something that has extended editons or extras I want to see Il buy on Bluray if its a movie I just want to watch Il stream from w.e source.
It's not convincing to me.Originally Posted by HEXUS

I don't buy Blu-rays, not least because I don't have anything that'll play them. I do have a LOT of DVD's, though haven't bought any for a while.
Streaming? No. If I want it, I want it on physical media. I never have paid a subscription for a streaming service, and I don't foresee that ever changing. I did have a Lovefilm subscription for a while, but as that consisted of getting largely a non-stop stream of 'list-filler' items that weren't what I really wanted, I cancelled it. I don't foresee ever doing that, again, either.
Physical copy, yes. Subscription, nope.
I have...one or two I think. HDDs take up so much less space, not to mention the convenience of being able to play them at the push of a button at any room in the house.
Haven't bought a bluray since the first week the playstation 3 came out.
Don't even bother downloading to keep any more either.
Stream only, Netflix/Plex and various IPTV.
Helps to have a decent speed and no limits with your ISP though.
I only get blu-rays for the films that I like the most, where i think the extra picture quality will make a difference. Gone are the days when I used to spend a fortune on DVD's etc. I spent a fortune on VHS when tapes were £20 for special editions, the same for DVD's. Now all the tapes are in the bin and it will only be a matter of time before the dvd's follow suite.
It's too expensive to buy blu-rays all the time especially when you know they will be obsolete in a few years when everything moves to 4k on whatever media that brings.
I buy some blu-rays but only the really good ones and only on specific items
On the flip side film is around 2k on the cinema screen, yes it has got better recently but if you consider this blu-ray is more or less the best most of the older films are going to get.
Add to this 4k will be on blu-ray (more efficient codec I am guessing) so there is no reason to say players will stop playing current blu-rays anytime soon.
One Blue-Ray film that i will but is The Guardians Of The Galaxy because thats one film that's well worth to buy Hardly worth buying as i learnt with always buying video's and then DVD's . A waist of money really only to show of a impressive collection to you mate' .. Most i only watched once but it was an addiction just to have them ..
But if i had the spare cash would i buy more Blue-Rays ?? Yes
No - Only got about 8 (and 6 of those are Harry potter!). Ended up using the bluray player more for its iplayer abilities. Only got an 5 year old 1080p LCD tv so the quality just isn't worth paying for. Found netflix good enough and far cheaper than buying DVD even (although I have cancelled my subscription for now as I got 9 months sky NOW for £25 - Its not half as good though!)
If a classic or a great film comes out on Blu Ray I will buy it, as the quality is far better than even a streamed HD or Sky streaming has it's place, but if tthe connection speeds are slow as they are for many, it means an experience akin to VCD with moire, macroblocking etc.
