Re: QOTW: Which PC components did you upgrade in 2014?

This year marks the year I stopped using a desktop. I did get some upgrades, a GeForce 750 Ti and 256GB SSD, but haven't installed them. My desktop hasn't been hooked in since we moved mid-year.

We did buy a new laptop just yesterday, a Lenovo Y70-70, which has pretty good spec: Core i7 4710HQ, GeForce GTX 860 with 4GB DDR5, 16GB RAM (once I install the extra 8GB).

Re: QOTW: Which PC components did you upgrade in 2014?

Swapped my 7950s for 290s. Great bang for buck, but I have been plagued by driver issues. Built an htpc and was very impressed by the 750ti in terms of performance per watt. That's about it for me this year.

Re: QOTW: Which PC components did you upgrade in 2014?

Kept the PSU, SSDs and RAM from old rig, but everything else new this year as moved from AMD/ATI to Haswell/Nividia rig and decided to use the opportunity to move from a regular case to the Lian Li testbench. So semi-new-build really.

Re: QOTW: Which PC components did you upgrade in 2014?

I migrated my home platform all to X79 which made a real difference to my media server.
On the GPU front I've gone from SLI GTX480s to SLI GTX780s, via an AMD 290. That experience has been the most significant change as I game at 2560x1600 and fold so whenever I leverage the GPU's now it's a significantly enhanced experience.

The last upgrade this years likely to be my mouse - I need something that supports my fingertip grip better so looking for a RAT 7...

Re: QOTW: Which PC components did you upgrade in 2014?

recently bought another 8GB RAM, not yet installed.

There may have been a slight debacle over an SLI'd 670, where I had to also install a new PSU... but now I have a spare PSU and a rather nice SLI configuration, need to find a reason to use that PSU now lol.

Other than that, not much, more about new gadgets atm rather than upgraded ones, PC performance improvement doesn't appear to be quite as rapid as it once was, last machine was my primary for 6 years, reckon this one will be around the same.
