What does it matter now if men believe or no?
What is to come will come. And soon you too will stand aside,
To murmur in pity that my words were true

I agree that the iphone X is used technology that has been used in other devices for quite awhile and then apple adds the apple premium to it. I doubt that the charger that comes with it will support the fast charging which is another cost after spending near £1000.
TL;DR: Am I impressed? Meh.
I'm probably the target market for it. My phone is used for pretty much everything - music, business email on the go, satnav, web access, stolen by the kids to play games, online banking, Audible for when I'm training/commuting etc. I'm also fairly heavily invested into the Apple ecosystem with an iMac, a couple of macbook pros, and a few iPads/iPhones knocking around.
Quite frankly the price makes no odds to me. I think the last phone I bought was a iPhone 6S when my previous iPhone stopped charging. I always buy the phones offline so I can swap if/when I want.
The problem I have with all these releases, and to a certain extent the computer hardware is that there's just no massive quantum leaps forward in technology any more. I don't see the utility I'd get out of an iPhone 8/8plus/X that I don't already have in my current phone.
I remember having an HTC WinCE mobile prior to the release of the iPhone. It was OK, but then I managed to get an iPhone 3G and the difference was night and day. The web browser was actually usable. You could really use the email client. I'm typing this on an iMac which is getting on for 5 years old, and is still capable of running most modern games at a reasonable clip, so no real reason to update.
I would spend the money on some thing else ie pc parts , My Alcatel u5 is great for me at £50 for a phone.
Not impressed. I mean I can't see any reason why I would choose the iPhone X over the Pixel 2 XL or the Essential Phone or the LG V30 or Xiaomi's Mi Mix 2 phone.
If it had been priced in the sensible range of around £500-£700, then it would be an potential option. There isn't enough "stand out" technology or design to make it worth £1000+, if anything it's very lacklustre in the design like the 6 / 7 and 8 are. I'd rather stick with my 5S than upgrade to any of the newer iPhones.
Because none of those will integrate seamlessly with the rest of the Apple infrastructure - there are some applications that do a reasonable job, but they aren't perfect.
There are some IPhones available in the price range you mention that will do that - if that is important to you. But I agree with you - for me the technology improvement doesn't justify the price tag, the 8 or 8+ is a more realistic upgrade proposition, and the 7 is still a very good 'phone.
Choice of phone (and cost) is governed by the infrastructure you buy into. Google supports its infrastructure on the back of data collection for advertising purposes. Apple doesn't.

Not innovative, face id actually failed in their presentation. Touch id is extremely useful, quick and ease of use. To have only face ID is a step back. So no iphone X is too expensive for what it provides. I only see sheep buying it and not people who actually want an easy phone to use.
My Samsung S* has all the following;
OLED display
Bezel less screen
Iris recognition
Wireless charging
Waterproof (IP68)
No to mention micro SD slot and the retail price direct from Samsung UK was £689. They also have an iPhone trade in programme and they gave me £156 off for trading in an old iPhone 4S my son used (now has iPhone 7). So all in all £533 so about half the price. I was also able to sell my old 6P for £150 to sweeten the deal further. TBH the screen on the S8 is amazing and having an SD slot is a major bonus over the 6p. This is the first "Samsung" phone I've owned (other the first Samsung Nexus) and I like it. I've turned off Bixby and use Google Assistant and touchwiz doesn't really bother me. The only downside is I was using Oreo on the 6p and now back to Nougat but it's not a big deal. For what I actually paid I consider this a major bargain!
meh. I tried my brother in-laws, its not all that. my wife's unlocked S8 that we bought for USD570 is better.
Although I must admit the Apple infrastructure is a definite plus point compared to Android, I'm not convinced that the price tag is justified, not just with the hardware but also with the whole ecosystem you buy into. The only part I would miss about Apple is the walled garden approach they have to the Apple app store, which is by far superior to Google Play from experience. While the 8 is a potential upgrade, it really looks dated compared to some of the newer Android phones, and considering I didn't like the design of the 6 or 7 it just isn't compelling enough for me to want to part with my cash.
Entirely screen apart from the bezel and the odd indent at the top. Once again apple over hype and overcharge. The opening the screen with your face fail at the launch spoke volumes about how good a product this is.
It's about £600 more than I would reasonably spend on a smartphone, so to be honest, it seems a little ludicrous. Currently using a Blackberry Key One and a Huawei P8, a combined cost of less than the iPhone X, which shows the problem IMHO.
I agree the 8 (or X) is - for - me not sufficient an advance to upgrade from a 7.
As for looking dated, that is a matter of taste, but is a very insignificant factor in my buying choice - features and capability that suit my needs far outweighs appearance or style or what is considered 'cool' - whatever that means.
Not that I'm suggesting that is your motive of course - i credit you and most intelligent HEXUS users with more sense than basing their buying decisions on what looks good.
That said, if buying the latest must have phone from Nokia, Samsung, Apple or whoever makes someone feel good about themselves, then who am I (or anyone else) to criticise them for that?
