Depends entirely on the game, for example first person shooters are undeniably better with keyboard and mouse, but generally controllers are better for racing games and platformers.
Agreed, first person shooters, MMORPG, keyboard and mouse all the way
Driving or sports games then gamepad
Its all about having the right tool for the job,
Joystick for flying
Wheel for racing games
Although my missus insists that everything should be done with the wheel!
Keyboard and Mouse.
Utterly
100%
without a milli second delay
Games Controllers for shooting anything are utter dross.

But it's that long since I used a keyboard and mouse for gaming, I just find it very difficult.
Well I bought a joypad for...... err..... something......
Oh, might have been that DOA game.
A friend of mine cosplays as Mai Shiruanianinuinininiuioiaiou-thingummy and I had no idea who she was, so I got the game to have a play.
That, or it was when Origin gave away a car racing game On The House...
Yeah, summat like that.
Keyboard + Mouse
But i use the steelseries merc stealth. Which for me feels way more comfortable than the usual wsad/arrow keys.

And then there are a few games where using my USB NES controller works better
Horses for courses an all that
I picked up Payday 2 on ps4 the other day since I played it loads on PC and I find it nigh on unplayable with the pad, but nobody's gonna use a mouse for FIFA or NFS.
FPS - keyboard and mouse
Beat em ups - has to be a controller
Since Borderlands 2 I use a controller for everything except the older GOG Games that are keyboard and Mouse only. Started this as I noticed my hands were starting to really hurt after playing for about an hour with keyboard and mouse so started out with a controller and now it is used for virtually everything.
I feel that only first person shooters really benefit from keyboard and mouse now, open world games, racing and so on are so much better with a pad.
Depends on the game, sometimes use both.
For instance Batman, use mouse and keyboard for movement etc but pick up the controller for when using the car.
Jon
Honestly I prefer the bongos
edit: KB&M is just fine for everything other than racing and potentially 3d platforming, I also prefer playing fighters with controller despite it technically being worse

For FPS and most things, KB/Mouse all the way! It's impossible to play an FPS without max auto-aim on a controller, period. Too slow, too imprecise.
I love my controllers for casual gaming. Anything that isn't FPS or that requires high precision.
Depends on the game, but mainly I play RPG/Adventure games nowadays so controller mostly but either is fine.
I've tried two or three pads but, cannot get on with them, partly because they don't seem to be designed for people with big hands (10 inch span). Now if they were offered in different sizes, like my Evoluent mouse, I might get on better with pads.
