Re: QOTW: How long does your PC take to boot?

I'm still perfecting my set up and not using any quick boot stuff, so I can fiddle. So the last BIOS time is 20 seconds. I need to somehow secure erase a couple of disobedient SSDs which have partitions left from old Windows installations which seem to be causing havoc with the UEFI stuff / Windows. The software from the manufacturers of the problem SSDs will not even recognise them. There are also several diagnostic / utility programs on Windows start up which are there to get the setup correct and they'll be eliminated once I get it all sorted although I'm busy installing and setting up my VMs now.

When the thing plays ball, including time for me to input login credentials, it's probably about 35 seconds to desktop and internet connectivity.

Re: QOTW: How long does your PC take to boot?

According to task manager Last Bios 13.6 seconds....

Actual time, I can sit down and turn screen on and it's ready for password to be entered so it's likely 10 or less in all honesty.

Functional windows, under 5 seconds from typing in password and pressing enter.

Although I will say I've been feeling my ssd/hard drive performance has been a little 'off' of late as well.

Re: QOTW: How long does your PC take to boot?

Last bios time was 20.3 seconds, I am sure some fiddling with my HDD's and/or XMP profiles could shave that right down, but I am too lazy. Although a bigger annoyance that can't be changed is that my mobo by design won't boot without a monitor switched on, so that adds time too as I switch off at the wall every night, and I have a habit of switching on the tower before anything else so the whole thing sits there cycling a rainbow disco show at me until it finds the monitor.

When I 1st Built it 5-6 years ago about 7-8 seconds to the desktop on Win 7, with an uplift to win10 and 5-6 years of bloat its about 10x that now lol #overdue a clean install start from scratch.

43 seconds, 3 external drives and a non DRAM SATA SSD. Time to get the NVME drive in.

    I don't know.. 20 seconds(ish)? I haven't really bothered to check.

I've never been in so much of a rush that it mattered.

anyone remember the XP days of 3-5 minutes? You'd get into work, turn on the pc, make a cup of tea, chat about the football/TV/commute and get back to your desk just in time for the log-on screen to finally appear.

Re: QOTW: How long does your PC take to boot?

25.5 seconds according to Task Manager.

I do have some external HDDs connected though, so it might be quicker with those switched off, especially as I do use a SATA SSD as my boot drive (although I have specifically disabled Fast Boot in Windows 10 too, so that any restarts, shutdowns and boots are proper ones).

Re: QOTW: How long does your PC take to boot?

The last BIOS time is the time the BIOS takes before Windows starts to boot. Mine is 28.7 seconds.

However after that running on a NVMe Samsung SSD it's like blink and you miss it to get into Windows. Then it starts to load up all the extra startup software and devices that are on delayed startup.

I will say it's a lot faster than older HDD based boot up which took minutes.

Re: QOTW: How long does your PC take to boot?

A LOT more than it should... My old AMD-FX PC with a salvaged SSD from a free laptop my government used to give kids booted faster than my new Ryzen machine with an actual SSD with modern chip technology, I really don't know why, I tried everything from updating BIOS to reinstalling windows and I just gave up on it... Really only rarelly bothers me when I need, for some reason to restart my PC, because I usually just turn it on right after waking up and I really mean right after waking up, it's the first thing I do after opening my eyes in the morning, then I'm off to take a bath, eat something, brush my teeth or whatever when I come back it's obviously booted into Windows just waiting for my password.

go into BIOS check if it has an option for sata controller IDE detect time. My old board defaulted to 30s!!! Change it to 0 or if you appreciate the update, 5seconds max. Doesn't matter if you've set the SATA to AHCI mode, it still does this to accommodate connected devices SFAIK. Don't ask me why, I'm not too sure of the ins-and-outs but just know what my board does.
